Turtles

Did you know that there are an estimated 800,000 female Olive Ridley Turtles? According to https://oceanconservancy.org. Researchers from https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/ say that the Olive Ridley turtle has a very pretty greenish color and a very cool fact about it is it has a heart shaped shell on its back! The Olive Ridley is not too big; ¨they can grow up to 2.5ft and weigh about 100 pounds.¨ (https://oceanconservancy.org). they love to eat lobster, crabs, mollusks and tunicates. (https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/) my favorite fact about them is that they are ¨one of the smaller sea turtles.¨ (https://seethewild.org).

Isn't great that Olive ridley turtles can help coral reef and seagrass stay healthy!(https://wolfcenter.org/) There are 10 million Olive Ridley Turtles in the Pacific ocean, but they are also located in the Atlantic and Indian ocean. (https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/). ¨Not much is known about it but they have seen them in the sun to get out of cold waters.¨(https://www.nwf.org/). Olive ridley turtles don't stay for a long time ¨As the mother sea turtle plays no role in their care or protection after they hatch.¨(https://turtlespet.com/). Another cool fact about Olive Ridley is that females nest and produce about 100 eggs every year. (https://oceanconservancy.org).

¨There are an estimated 800,000 nesting females in the wild¨ according to (https://oceanconservancy.org). Tons of Olive Ridley Turtles are being threatened by all of the waste people put in the ocean which hurts the animals in it. it includes bycatch (unwanted fish) in fishing gear and is very much harming the population of these turtles (https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/). In paragraph 2 I stated that these ¨they help ensure coral reefs and sea grasses stay healthy.¨ (https://wolfcenter.org/).But then if they weren't here they would probably be very unhealthy. This situation makes me feel very sad because some people are careless about the plants and animals everywhere especially in the ocean and they are harming the turtles. How would you feel if you were stuck in plastic and were dying from these wastes that were carelessly thrown by people?
