Food or Cash Crop
Austria mostly exports food products such as maize, cereal grains, potatoes, apples, and meats. Austria does export some forestry items such as wood and paper but not as much as food products.
In Austria, different regions have different climates, and this affects the kinds of crops and farming activities in those areas. In the mountainous Alpine region, where it's cooler, you find livestock farming and dairy production, with cows and sheep grazing on alpine meadows. The continental (central European) region, has distinct seasons with cold winters and warm summers, making it suitable for growing a variety of crops like wheat, barley, apples, and pears. This area is also known for vineyards, contributing to Austria's wine production. In the warmer and drier Pannonian region in the east, crops like corn and sunflowers thrive, along with more vineyards. Altitude matters too, affecting temperatures and what can be grown. The Illyrian climate is more like a mediterranean climate where vineyards and mediterranean fruits and vegetables are grown due to dry hot summers and mild winters, examples of these crops are grapes which are used for wine production.
