An example of a functional region within Austria is Vienna's metropolitan area. Vienna, the capital and largest city of Austria, serves as the central point or hub for various economic, cultural, and administrative activities, making it a functional region.

Relative Location: Austria is a landlocked country located in Central Europe. To get from the United States to Austria, you would travel eastward across the Atlantic Ocean.

Climate
Austria has a temperate climate, mostly like other Central European countries, but you can still feel the influence of the Atlantic. Because of where it is on the map, Austria experiences big temperature differences and unique weather characteristics in each season.
Biomes
East: Pannonian climate with a continental influence – low precipitation, hot summers, but only moderately cold winters.
Alpine Regions: Alpine climate - high precipitation (except inner alpine valley regions such as the Upper Inntal), short summers, long winters.
Remainder of the Country: Transient climate influenced by the Atlantic (in the West) and a continental influence in the South-East.
