I have been working in the Learning Commons for almost two months now. It has been a great learning experience to add to my pocket. I've realized that when someone on your team is confused or doesn't know about a specific thing, I can, and should, help them despite me being on my own task. This will help me in the future to work in a team with my coworkers. Although I have a job now, from my experiences working behind the desk in the library, I now know that I should treat everyone of all ages the same. Working at my job outside of school, I usually serve and help people older than me, but everyone should be granted the same respect and courtesy. So far, my tasks in the Learning Commons have been quite easy. I think that this is the case because I'm very used to the customer service aspect. The only thing I found a bit difficult was learning my way around the library and its systems.
My classmates and I completed this assignment by using our teamwork skills. The overview of the assignment was to come up with ideas that we wanted to do for Literacy Month. We used ours and the students in other classes' original thoughts and takeaways from our survey. this was helpful because I got the opportunity to work and talk with my classmates. I discovered that Rashard, Ingrid, and I had a similar thinking process that was demonstrated in the way we decided to organize everyone's thoughts.
During this field trip, the goal was to get the students excited about reading, in the form of reading to them, asking them questions, and giving them a book character to color. I worked as a team with Ingrid to make our books interactive with the students and talk to them about their favorite books while getting them started on coloring. I am most proud that I didn't shy away from the students and was able to have conversations with them.
