The Himalayas

Did you know that the Himalayas is home to 10,000 species of plants, 977 species of birds, 300 species of mammals, 269 species of freshwater fish, 176 species of reptiles and 105 species of amphibians? The Himalayas are located in the northeastern portion of India. They cover about 1,500 miles and go through the nations of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and China. The Northern Himalayas’ summers reach about 86°F, while in the winter the temperature can reduce to about 64°F. The Middle section of the Himalayas has summers that reach about 77°F, while in the winter the temperature can decrease to below freezing. The rest of the Himalayas are usually below freezing. They can have light or heavy snowfall. The middle and western parts of the Himalayas get very heavy snowfall. The Himalayas is full of mountains and holds the world record breaking Mount Everest for its height. One very interesting fact about the Himalayas is that it is one of the youngest mountain ranges on the planet.
