Red Pandas

Did you know that red pandas were originally given the name “panda” until the black and white variety was discovered? They live in the Eastern Himalayas. Male red pandas can weigh 8.2–14 lbs. Female red pandas can weigh 6.6–13 lbs. Red pandas can be 22 to 24.6 inches long. They can be easily identified by their unique coat color, which acts like camouflage to the reddish-brown moss and white lichens. They have large, round heads and short snouts with big, pointed ears. They mainly eat bamboo. They also eat roots, succulent grasses, fruits, insects and grubs. They may occasionally kill and eat birds and small mammals. They are usually shy except when mating.
