BRIDGE the Gap has multiple goals that we'd like to achieve by simply following our vision: "bridging the gap" between scientific research & public understanding through artistic (and accurate) multimedia representation of complex scientific topics. We envision a more knowledgeable and creative community through this initiative (and hope you can help contribute!)
Our mission is to democratize scientific knowledge by making it more visually appealing, comprehensive, & overall accessible to a much wider audience. We see this organization as a community- one where students feel encouraged to read these publications and foster a willingness to give back by writing, illustrating, communicating their findings, and working together in order to enrich their collaborative techniques.
Through this organization, we hope to incorporate all aspects - art, science, technology - and create an end product that sparks a sense of intrigue as much as knowledge and education. We look forward to maximizing our potential!
We realize that fields such as science and technology, while systematically widespread, are actually gatekept from certain demographics and age groups. Even general research journals are costly, pertain to collegiate students or researchers, or just contain verbiage diffiult for many younger students to comprehend.
Because we recognize this as a growing problem, we made BRIDGE to focus on producing publications geared for the general public to read while keeping their scientific integrity.Â
The team based approach we planned ensures a diverse set of perspectives are taken into account, and this is to solidify our dedication to representation and inclusivity. By combining research & art (and consequently removing the concept of "plain text" research), we hope these articles can inspire many future artists and scientists to pursue their fields with equitable and accessible features in mind!
