The assignment was to draw in linear perspective, but I wanted to incorporate a little bit of transparency and odd shapes.
The first idea I had for my project was to make it look surreal or like a fairy fantasy. As you can see that didn't happen. I then decided to stick with a geometrical-looking house in the middle of nowhere. I also added a cobblestone path starting from the beginning of the painting to the sun in the background. I also added trees and made it look as real as possible.
During the process of my painting, I improved many things such as deepening the color and adding in little details, such as the grass and the leaves on the trees. I struggled a little bit with the sunset and how I wanted to go about doing the tree leaves. And also making it look as real or geometrical as I possibly could. I think I got it to look better than I expected and to the best of my ability. I had to ask my teacher quite a bit for help with blending and adding in the painting details. My favorite part about this project was that I got to pick the color scheme and what I wanted to draw out and then paint. The transparent, geometrical little building I made was a little harder to do considering I had never made a building look like that before. Overall this was a really fun and exciting project to do and I look forward to doing more like that soon.
The artist I chose was Mark Demsteader and he works mainly with famous people; and he paints differently than I did in my painting. The meaning behind his art is to show sensuality, sensitivity and many more emotions and that what I tried to do in my painting I wanted to make it look older, that's why I made it black and white. I learned how to make my painting seem more emotionally interesting by making the lights and darks in my expression the main thing. My painting came out to be very successful in my opinion. I worked mainly on my face and tried to define some of the lines and the lights and darks in it, Along with hair and the wrinkles in the shirt. The areas I would like to improve on the most are probably the background shirt and the hair, everything else is good enough for me. The criteria I set for myself was to make it as best as I could and make it the most realistic as I could too. I met all my criteria fairly well. I had to change the nose and some facial features the most and I had to refine the wrinkles in the shirt and also make the lights and darks contrast really well with one another. Mrs. Laux commented on some of the things I could fix in my painting and after fixing them it made it so much better. I used all the feedback she gave me and made my painting as best as it could be. I used all my time in class to finish this project and it only took about 3 weeks to finish. This project was very fun and very calming as I worked on it.
