Description
The design is very colorful, with a lot of pinks and blues. I can see a person that has driven to the top of a mountain or cliff. As you can see from the right of the picture, there is maybe a road that leads on top of the rocks. The person has climbed on top of the car and that he or she is looking at the sky. It also seems like he could follow the light as of how close it looks from over the mountain. The artist that created this design is Diego Hernandez and the art work is called Following the Light. He is a digital artist based in Mexico who is 21 and started taking photos when he was 18. He uses vibrant colors to make a unique visual story to make his 3D images. The artwork is made as a vertical format. You can buy his art on Big Wall Decor around $99 to $265, it depends on what you want. The sizes come in 18”x24”, 24”x36”, 32”x48”, or 40”x60”. The setting of the theme in my eyes is the person following the moon to wherever it goes, you can see that the moon is behind the mountain and also in the artwork you can feel like you can almost touch the moon. You could also say you can see the sky has a galaxy type of artwork. The objects are very detailed in the artwork and are very clear. There is a little bit of space but most of the space is used and there is light shown by the sun behind the mountain. There is no text used, there is light shown by the sun in the background and light shown in the car that makes it kind of glow. The shapes used you could say they are organic by how detailed it is and very clear. The textures are very smooth but a little bit rough on the rocks to give it that design. The design is most likely close to a landscape.
Analysis
There is a focal point in the design. What stands out most in this artwork is the car, since that's where my eyes landed first seeing that it was very detailed and it is also glowing. The bluish glow caught my eye also since to me it's the brightest color that stands out in the design. The work is unified by how it comes together. Since it’s technically a landscape, it shows nature by the trees, mountains, and rocks so it comes together. What is different about the design is the sky. The sky first shows that it’s normal like a sunrise or sunset, but when you look up it’s more like a galaxy than a night sky. I don’t think the same type of brush is used, maybe different types of brushes are used throughout the artwork to be more detailed about the little things in the artwork. The composition is balanced as you can see everything is not on one side and is spread out. It is balanced by how the car and cliff are in the middle, the trees are on the left, the road leading to the cliff is on the right, and the mountain mostly takes up the rest of the space in the background. I think large objects in the background are shrunk to show how far away the sun and mountain is, and the trees are enlarged to show how close the trees are to the cliff. I could say the size of the object or normal compared to each other and have stillness. The type of eye movement starts you in the middle where the car and cliff is and then takes you up towards the mountain and sky since they stand out the most. Yes, actual lines direct you towards the space around the design since there is a lot in the artwork.
Interpretation
I think the artwork is telling a unique story about one person wanting something in life or wanting to go on an adventure that could lead to in life. I think the artwork is telling a unique story about one person wanting something in life or wanting to go on an adventure that could lead to in life. I think the author is trying to tell us that you should take your chances on an adventure that you’ll only get to do once in a lifetime. You only live one. The author is trying to express in the design that nature is unique in many different ways and the artist make the artwork pop out and makes it mind blowing. The content or point of view is that he’s trying to make the piece of art mind blowing in a way making the unimaginable to life. The artwork serve more than a function other than being simply looked at because the artwork is not bland, it just doesn’t have one thing to stare like some art works. In a way, the artwork could put you awe as there is no blank spaces, the artist took a lot of time and effort into this piece with all the pink and blue colors, he made the sky actually look like a galaxy, he was very detailed up in the front and starts to fade in the back. A couple metaphors for this artwork could be: chase after your dreams, make the unimaginable happen. The artwork honestly makes me feel happy and amazed. It makes me feel this way because the artist put so much time and effort into it and I think a lot more people should see this young artist's artwork. This makes me question how comes up with such ideas. How does he have so much time to dedicate to his art work with how detailed his work is? Diego taught himself photography and now creates surreal worlds. There is not very much information on this young artists except a for some descriptions of what he does on social media. I think his inspiration and influence comes from him learning by himself how digital design works and puts effort into his work. I also think he gets his inspiration going around taking photos of landscapes and uses his photography skills in the making, knowing he has the ability to do that. I say the best influence on him was when he started posting his work and a lot of people have given him so much confidence and driven him to do more also.
Evaluation
I honestly absolutely love the art work because Hernandez uses his digital skill to make unique and outstanding pieces of art that was first a photo, to a whole nother world. I think the best part of the artwork is how realistic and that it catches your eye so fast, I just love the idea of just taking a normal and turning it into something more. The only thing that might not be as successful in the artwork is below the mountain where all the clouds are, it is not as realistic as the rest of the piece. If I were making this, the only thing that I would change is, like saying what is less successful in artwork is the clouds. I would put a little more detail in it like the rest of the artwork yet again. The Imitationalism in the artwork is there but not because he made it unique as Hernandez, let’s say for instance the sky, if he left as just a sunset it would be more realistic but he also had a galaxy look to it too. Then the car, car do not glow unless it’s in nonfiction movie or book. For formalism, it beyond well designed and organized, putting the trees to one side, the mountain in the middle, and being more detailed up close. This artwork does not have instrumentalism in my opinion because it has no ceremony or ritual, and also doesn’t encourage people to act better for society unless they are very concerned for the environment and wanting it to exactly look like the art piece. For Imitationalism, I could see it having good representation of life as he uses photography to represent that Hernandez himself can observe. Expression, it is evocative to me and could catch anyone's eye in all honestly with the colors and how when it's up close you can see a lot of detail and express strong feelings. Last but not least Institutionalism. The artwork is not unconventional because Hernandez put a lot of work and effort into it unlike some artists where they just put their name on it and make an object where there is no purpose or feelings about it. The artwork is not original and I don’t think it is as brand new as some of his other work. This art piece was made November 8, 2019. Hernandez is not well known since there is not very much information on him except for the couple art websites and social media that he has. I personally don’t know if it influenced other artists, but it does greatly influence young students. I also don’t think it plays a crucial role in history. If it played a crucial role in history, it would mostly be in books by now, be all over history websites, internet in general and would hear more about it. He is a little famous in the media more than the actual public, but I personally don’t think a known famous person would own the artwork or not. There are many types of artwork that isn’t just digital, there could be many more people that could be as good as him or even better, it could be challenging. I would say it is important because of the hard work that someone puts into their work and feels confident about how good it turned out in the end.
For my digital design project, it was almost similar to the drawing, but wasn’t exactly the same. This was my first digital design project. The form and design was there but, I think Hernandez used photography also in work and then used photoshop. In my artwork I actually drew everything out. I tried to use the grid but since it was my first time, it seemed very difficult to do at first.
Finding the tools in photoshop, it was a little difficult but didn’t take me as long as trying to find out how to actually use the tools. The most trouble I had was trying to blend the colors together. I first tried to use the smudge tool but it didn’t seem to work. I then had some help from my teacher, and we decided to use the brush tool, find a similar color, and change the opacity and hardness of the brush. What I felt like I was really successful with was the pinpoint tool. Icoud ealy make a path and when I was done with my path, I would click to where I started, use the bucket, and it would dump color on the whole path.
In my self animation, I decided to use the photos that I took and made cows playing basketball against each other. I was wanting the cows meeting in the middle waiting for the basketball to drop and then let the game begin. I learned a lot during the project. It was a lot to learn all at once and I hoped many steps would take to do the project. I learned how to make the images fade in and fade out and learned how to move the image on each slide instead of it showing on all of the slides. It took my 254 frames to complete the whole project. I took careful steps of moving the cows around and making the basketball bounces, that did not take too many steps. Now rotating images, that was a little tricky to keep making copies and tweening them each time trying to remember what frame you're on. I added more images into the animation to show the facial expression of the two cows and at the end I moved one of the cows to the middle and used outer glow and made another image that I added in to show who the winner is.
My animation reflects my personality because for two of my photos I live on a farm. The background of the animation is our hay barn in our field and for the second photo I took a picture of one of our cows. For the third photo was the basketball hoop and that shows that I like to play basketball during and out of school if I have the free time to do so. I chose these photos for my animation because it shows that I can put two things that I love together in one project. The images could symbolize how I live and grow up and show what I liked to do in my lifetime and how it represents myself. I might’ve used one metaphor that shows through the whole project. The metaphor is on the banner and it says, “Moo on over!!!” This was technically supposed to be a joke that my friend made up since the animation is about two cows playing basketball, but it seemed to fit in the animation very well.
Some of the extra skills that I learned in making in the animation is how when you make a lot of slides and forget to add something and wanted that specific image on all of your slides, above the timeline you can click the little bar above it and click, “New Layers Visible to all Frames” and that image will be added to the frames. I taught myself to remember all of the steps to make an animation even though I had to ask for help sometimes if I did forget. I taught myself to also get into the rhythm of making copy after copy and hiding the last copy so it wouldn’t end up on the slide. The mask mode helped me a lot too when I added my three images and more images that I found on the internet to make the animation look better. To demonstrate my new skills, when I would copy the image, had the last copy, I would rotate the image little by little to show the progress and also tween it or change the opacity. For putting a specific image on each slide, I put a banner up on the animation to cover the bottom of the two goals, I clicked on “New Layers Visible to all Frames” after going back the first slide putting a rectangle to represent the banner and dumped on it, then added the phrase “Moo on Over!!”.
The 4 colors I choose for my logo project would be topaz (orange), red, yellow, and turquoise. Topaz represents my birthstone, red represents braveness, yellow represents bright and outgoing, and turquoise represents hard working. The typography I used to put my name around the logo is named Algerian, in a way it had a western style to it on how bulk it was. I used rectangles and triangles mostly to make the shape of the head of a bull. The colors andthe image reflects the traits of my personality because a bull in general represents how brave and strong you are, so does the color red. I’ve grown up around cattle my whole life, so for a bull, being strong is one of their biggest traits. The color yellow could be shown as sometimes cattle want to play around sometimes and turquoise represents how much work they can do to help a human being when trying to get things done. Cattle represent me in a way like I just explained, they can be outgoing, hard working and strong.
The first step of completing my logo was to first draw it out. I made two drawings to see which one I would like better. I made one that had more detail, and one that was simple shapes and not so much of the detail. I then had to choose between the two that I liked better and as you can probably guess, I picked the more detailed one. The next step was to draw five rough drafts of where I wanted my name to go or I wanted to use a square, circle, or just leave the background blank behind my logo to make it stand out more. The rough drawing that I picked out of the five was the head of a bull inside a colored circle so the bull would be on top of it. Then have my first name going under the base of the circle at the bottom. I then made the drawing into a PDF and worked on the logo in Illustrator. In Illustrator I made the lines more bulk to where you could see instead of the lines being crooked and not straight, I also colored in some of the bull black so there wouldn’t be any blank spots where it’s colored in. I then used the gradient tool to switch up the colors to the colors that I chose out. After I finished the project, putting my name around it, filling in more color, I made the PDF file into a PNG file to upload to my website.
The message of my infographic is to stop doing drugs. It explains how taking drugs can affect you and the others around you, especially children. This affects children when growing up because they start to think it is okay, or it can get them hurt with your actions. It can lead to physical, mental, and emotional abuse. It also talks about how people prioritize drugs over the things that actually matter to you in life and how it can affect you in many ways from working, to losing family, to losing yourself.
My design supports the message by saying there are many types of drugs that you can take and how different they are from each other including side effects. The color red I used means that it is dangerous and you should not do it. Some of the images I used are to represent death, show what it could lead to, or generally telling you to get help before it leads to high consequences. The data and graph shows the information I have researched on overdoses and reports of child abuse from drugs taking place. I used bold fonts to catch the attention of the audience and for the body text I made the font white so it could be easier for people to read. The design targets the audience by telling you that you should not take drugs for your own benefit, it can hurt you and others and affect your life and if you have done drugs you should try to get help.
How I created unity was to use the images, data graphs, colors, and text to show it all comes together and shows how much of a problem it is across the US and maybe other countries. I used emphasis by catching audience attention by making things stand out like the images and making the text big and bold so that it would be the first thing that you read is the bold text.
The extra things I used for my infographic was to do more research to add on so there's more to read and more information to give. I also used more images to use more of the space so it didn’t look like there would be blank spots. I did not make any of the images in photoshop or illustrator. I found some images on Piktochart under graphics. The images I found only showed images that were not copyrighted. I was going to use some images from Pixabay, but whenever I would try to download some of the images, they would not show that I downloaded them.
My first chart is a pie chart and shows the reports of children being abused, proven reports of children being abused, and no reports of child abuse. The percentages are 30.21%, 19.88%, 49.9% in order. So this graphic shows that more kids were found that no reports of child abuse were taken in place. The second graph is a horizontal bar that shows the number of the top 10 places in the US for drug overdose deaths. Out of those 10 states Virginia was number 1. The map shows where the states are.
3D Model
My goal for this project was to make a 3D image out of clay in SculptGL. What I really wanted to make was a lion, or at least the head. I never really sculpt before except for maybe once, but I did find it an interesting experience. I did not want to pick just a simple object, but it would’ve been nicer to possibly pick something simpler to start out with before I made a lion since I think I would’ve had practice. In class we did do a demo of a skeleton, but I was mildly frustrated even with that.
My process for the project I thought went really well and that it wasn’t going to take as long as I thought it would take. After the demo and following along during the tutorial, using the tools were easier during my project. I mostly used the brush tool, smooth tool, crease tool, and the drag tool. I used the brush tool to add up clay or take away clay to make the basic shapes to the filter. I then used the smooth tool to smooth out what I added on with the brush tool so the object wasn’t so rough. I used the crease and drag tool to put in details into the face and front of the body. I only used the draw tool to show that there was fur or hair on the object. I tried to make whiskers and smooth out the hair, but it would either pull too much of the clay out, or would smooth out too much of it.
The challenges I met during this project were a little difficult because sometimes the tools would want to work right. For an example, I used the brush tool for the front legs as I was building up clay, it wouldn’t be coming out like a cylinder, it would kind of come out like a triangle. The problem was you have to build in the front and the sides, even the bottom. Also the smooth tool was also frustrating at times. No matter the radius of the smooth tool, I felt like it would smooth out too much of what I wanted and would have to build up more clay and do it again. The most successful part of my work was putting the detail into the face of my project. I was happy how the face came out when using the crease tool to make the mouth and nose. The only frustrating part about the crease tool is when making very small minor creases like in the paws or the eyes, it would do too much.
The goal of this project was just to make a little neighborhood with people moving around and going in or out of houses. The goal of this project was to be simple but not too simple. My goal in particular was to use music in the project and to make a scene that you could imagine in your head how the song goes along with it. It shows what kind of day it is in instead of a poor rainy day, it’s all sunny and warm where people are all out and about like they have no worries in the world and are having a great time. I will have to say I learned a lot in this project even though this project is the most I have struggled on.
The mood of this project that I would describe would have a happy vibe and goes with the video. The song I used, the title is named Great Day to be Alive by Niko Moon. The mood to this song has a good beat to it. The song is possibly I song you would sing along with and most likely turn all the way up in your while you driving somewhere. I think this song's lyrics go along with this song quite well. The song is talking about how that person is having a really good day and wishes that every day could be like that specific day.
The background represents a little neighborhood about maybe mid day. The sky is bright blue, the grass is really green, and the sun is out. I used squares and circles to make the houses, people, the sun and car. I used the selection tool to select the shapes and cut the shapes and got rid of what I didn't need and then added more shapes to that first shape. I mostly used the circles for the people and used lines to make their body. I was going to make actual people to where you could see their features, but I had some trouble with grouping the whole shapes and decided to do something that wouldn’t take long to replace. I mostly used squares for the background which was to make the buildings. I then copied the background and kept adding it a couple times so when the song played after using motion tween or classic tween, the whole background moves so it’s like you are walking or even driving and you can see all the people moving around and looking at all the bright colors. I did the classic tween and motion tween a lot. I mostly used motion tween for the people and the sun, and used classic tween for the background and car that is driving by.
I really struggled with tweening since at first I felt like I was doing something right but then I would accident;y click in the middle of it then it would disappear, or it would look like it would glitch. Also when I would start the music part of the shapes would stay there while everything else would move. I struggled with grouping things together like the background and the houses. Another thing would be when I would edit message shapes by using the selection tool, it would click the background and would fully move it and mess up the classic tweening then I would have to redo it all over again and again. Lastly I really did get frustrated with the motion tweening when something would go wrong thenI would have to backtrack a couple steps, redo it, then test it to see if I did right the next time. What I have just explained happened many many times during this project but I feel like I did an okay job with what I have accomplished in this project.
In my after effects project, it shows how it has a never ending scene driving in a desert. I ended up getting exactly what I wanted in the project, the only thing that could make this project possibly better, was to have more objects in the scene. The things I ended up accomplishing were to make a forever ending background and a mustang that actually is moving smoothly across the road. My original plan was to make a never ending scene but also have objects pop out of the ground in the background so it wasn’t very bland. After seeing how difficult After Effects could be and watching a lot of tutorials on how I could try to make a never ending scene and have objects popping out of the background at the same time, I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep going back and forth between two tutorials and piece them two together without going back to the tutorials multiple times and doing the project without problems happening in the program which unfortunately I ran into it crashing a couple of times. I also wanted to make more than just one car but how long it took me just to make one, I would’ve ran out of time to make more than just one.
The first skill that I have learned to do in after effects was to make an assets folder to find what you need easier. Next, was to add and import files from other adobe programs. After that, I needed to learn how to make compositions to make my scene. I watched some tutorials from our class demo to remember how to. Then, the next step was to find a background and turn that into a loop scene. This took me a couple tries to find a video that explains the steps very well. I needed the background to run smoothly for this project to work. All I needed to do was to stretch the background out and put a couple timelines to make the background move at a certain pace. I needed a start time, end time, and then needed a time between the two to show how fast or slow it needed to be. If it's closer to the start, it will go slower, if it's closer to the end time, it will go faster. After the background, I needed to make the car so that means I had to make the car on a separate program so I used adobe illustrator. After I finished this, I imported the file to my background and looped the car so the car is moving along with the background.
At first doing the process of making everything step by step was really confusing since this is the first time I've used this program. I would have to keep rewatching or go back to the videos to see where they did this or that step. Trying to make a loop scene was frustrating with the background since it would want to lag or crash but I managed to get through it. When I would mess up on a certain thing I would try to undo my mistake but instead it would get rid of my compositions or steps that I really needed. Also, some of the files wouldn’t want to load or show up so it also took me a while to find a file that would show up in after effects. What I found successful was making the car go across the road. This was close to the end of the project. It was fun making illustrations. I really liked the way it turned out. What I could improve on was definitely the background so it could’ve been going a little faster and not stopping which you can tell in the project unlike the car, it was running very smooth. I wouldn’t say it was very hard to learn the after effects. There were just a lot of steps and trying to find which button is what as in which one for is opacity, what's for timeline and so forth.
Our project in art this week, we did our own Independent project. I decided to make my independent project in Adobe photoshop because it was one of my two favorites to win for Adobe since I could actually draw things out free handed. What I wanted to do with my project was to find a painting or photograph and draw it out myself. I ended up using a photograph of a sunset looking down on the mountains or a valley. The changes I made during the project were to either blend, fix mistakes, or find another way to make an object look better.
For this project I really wanted to freely draw it without trying to make the shapes and mostly used the brush. I also used opacity in making the colors blend. To make the drawing easier. For at least the mountains, I used Adobe Illustrator. I used both the pen tools to trace out the mountains then I would copy into photoshop. I learned these skills during my school as we processed what we’ve learned my senior year in class, knowing photoshop was one of our first projects to do. So with this note, some of the skills that I did learn, I spaced out or forgotten and would struggle with at times. I demonstrated these skills by using what I learned during the school year and used it in my painting like I did with my first project in photoshop.
My strengths of this project is how much time and effort I tried to put into the painting, and how quick everything came together. Another strength would be how I tried to paint a photograph with mostly just a brush tool. I just wanted to have fun with this one since this year is coming to an end and would be one of my last big projects. I tried to make the painting as similar as I could to the photograph that I used as a reference. My weaknesses with the project was that I feel like the picture wasn’t realistic enough. I felt like I was struggling to blend all the colors. It had a lot of oranges and red and pinks, but sometimes there would be whole other dark colors as well that were hard to blend in. What I thought was successful in the painting were the mountains and the sky where it's closer to the mountains where you can see the clouds blending in with the background and not standing out as much. I think I could improve my skills by taking more time to look over the painting as I felt a little rushed having less time with this project, and also trying to use different tools and take time to learn them so I could use it in future paintings and get better. The most difficult thing in the project was remembering what tools are what and remembering which layers you need to paint on so if you make a mistake you can easily fix that before continuing on like I did.
I would’ve liked to add and give credit to the photographer who made this photograph, I did some research but only to find that most of the websites are blocked on the computer I’m using, or when researching the image and finding websites that weren’t blocked, it wasn’t the best reliable website. I do not have many electronics so unfortunately I did not get to do additional work outside of school or the projects I’ve worked on out of class.
