The PBIS initiative outlines Shelton Public School's behavior expectations. In this model students are rewarded for positive behaviors and given consequences for inappropriate behaviors. In the PBS model students are reminded to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe at all times throughout the school building.
Please review the PBIS rules listed in the right column
In order to provide each student with an excellent educational climate we have created a success contract that each student helped develop. The contract focuses on the three main concepts of Positive Behavior Intervention Support: Respect, Responsibility, and Safety. The terms of this contract were created by the students, discussed, and reviewed. Each student agreed to the terms in class and upon signing the contract, with a parent/guardian witness, they vowed to uphold the terms and if these terms are broken they would expect the clear consequences stated below.
If a student is found breaking the terms of their success contract there will be clear consequences: 1st Warning: If a student chooses to break the contract they will be put on the PBIS log and given a written reflection and shown the contract that they signed as a reminder of their agreement. 2nd Warning: If a student continues to break the terms of their success contract, they will again be put on the PBIS log and must fill out a second written reflection which must be signed by parent/guardian detailing their next step towards the path of success. 3rd Warning: If a student continually disregards the terms of their success contract they will again go on the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) Log a phone call will be made to the students parent/guardian. Also the student may be recommended for the PBIS club to help reinforce the PBIS rules and allow for a longer period of reflection. If a student refuses to abide by the success contract and/or school rules, they will be sent to discuss this with the principal and further parent/guardian contact will be made.
Within the classroom I will give positive feedback and small rewards for adhering to the terms of the success contract. Rewards may include, but are not limited to, extra computer time, free homework pass, pencils, eraser caps, grips, candy treat, lunch in the classroom, etc.
PBIS raffle tickets will be given to students following the success contract and adhering to the PBIS rules. The ticket will be filled out by the student and placed in the raffle jar in the main office. If the student's name is chosen they can chooses rewards such as: spending recess in the game room with a friend, eating lunch in the courtyard with a friend, lunch with the principal, etc.
In addition students will also have the opportunity to be granted class tickets by any staff member at Perry Hill. These will be given with to our class for following the PBIS rules throughout the building. Once we’ve earned 15 class tickets we will get 15 extra minutes of recess!!
