Phase 1
Payload Design
Payload Design
Phase Overview
For this phase, we will consider different designs for our payload, choose one design based on our specifications, and briefly discuss the modeling constraints the team had to adhere to.
Pros:
Cut allows for claw to grip material
Cons:
Edges provide minimal benefit
Pros:
Simple design
Cons:
Edges provide minimal benefit
Larger claw surface contact may not grip well
Pros:
Top and bottom edge extends to allow gripping
Less material allows for faster printing
Accommodating to most claw designs
Cons:
Unaccommodating to linear claw design
We chose our design while considering;
Grasping mechanism constraints
Payload design of other groups
Design feasibility/3D printing limitations
All three of the above designs were feasible for our 3D printing limitations, so this did not inhibit our decision making. The grasping mechanism and other groups' payload design helped narrow our options. The third design provides far more availability for varying designs of the grasping mechanism, therefore being the best design to follow through with in our project.
