This event was highly engaging and deeply thought-provoking. Eden Greene facilitated the discussion really well, and I loved the casual yet insightful dynamic of the panel as Ms. Angel, Professor Kornblau, and Mr. Bensinger offered their unique and diverse perspectives in an attempt to define truth in a modern context.
I was especially drawn to the idea of personal versus shared truths and how each contributes to our understanding of fact. Ms. Angel made a particularly interesting point, claiming that facts, in their entirety, do not exist. While I am not entirely sure whether I agree, I can now confidently concur that truth is subjective, existing as no more than a shared agreement amongst a given community. That said, in the face of information consumption via modern media, these widely accepted truths hold more power than what may be closer to fact. I wonder how the “production” of truth may change with the implementation of media censorship going forward. Either way, I will continue to think critically and approach portrayed “fact” with my own truths in mind.
Thank you so much to Ms. Angel, Professor Kornblau, Mr. Bensinger, and Eden for hosting this event and approaching this meaningful topic with such graceful observation.
