Mouse skills can be difficult for many of our students. Here are a few sites to help students work on basic mouse skills:
For some students it may be important to make changes to the mouse settings on the computer (cursor size/color, cursor sensitivity/speed). You may consult with the CLA or feel to reach out to the AT Department for instructions and recommendations.
Here are a few keyboarding sites and resources:
Tutorials/Instruction Sites:
Games/Activities Sites:
Keyboard options for iPads:
Most schools have a small set of keyboards that students can use on a short term basis. If a student is needing a keyboard long term, then we can check out a keyboard for a student to use from our AT Department.
Students are welcome to use the above sites and they would likely work with the external keyboard
If your team feels that the student is not making progress gaining access to the computer after providing direct instruction on mouse skills over a prolonged period, then your team may wish to look into trialing a touch monitor. The OT that works with the student should reach out to the AT Dept to request a touch screen monitor. It should be noted that the team should also develop a plan for working to address the fine motor and motor planning concerns to hopefully assist the student in being able to gain mouse skills over time. Have the OT reach out to the AT Department if you are interested trialing a touch monitor by clicking this link: AT Dept.
