Reverse Engineering: What is it?

Reverse Engineering is the process of deconstructing an item to understand its design, functionality, and underlying components, to recreate or improve it.

My Object

I decided to disassemble a small bluetooth speaker with a very simple design.

Evidence of Work

The main goal of this project was to fully disassemble your object of choice and figure out how each component works together and how the design was thought out. Luckily, our object was very simple and easy to take apart. We took out the four screws that held on the front cover and we were able to access all of the components such as the breadboard, battery, and sub woofer. As we took it apart, we took measurements and drew what we saw which is shown in the sketches below.

Overall, this project was an enjoyable experience and was a good introduction to the type of work we will be doing for this class. We kind of just jumped in to the project right away, which did lead to some difficulties in finding a good object to disassemble, but once I found a suitable object it was smooth sailing from there. At first, I brought in a small light switch fixture which turned out to be too simple to disassemble. Mr Tronconi then provided me with a Bluetooth speaker, but there was no way to take it apart without destroying the design. Eventually, I found a small San Marin Sports Boosters Bluetooth speaker that was appropriate to use.  I started to take it apart and worked very efficiently. I had the full disassembly complete within a day and completed my sketches after about another 2 days. 

Although I did get my work done in a timely fashion, I feel like I could still improve upon my work ethic. During this project, I did minimal work in class and did a lot of it at home. This should be the other way around and would also leave me more time for other work. In the future, I will try harder to do most of my work during the given class time so I can save myself time from doing it at home. Also, being able to ask questions is a huge advantage of doing work in class compared to doing it at home, so If I  ever get confused or need help I will be able to get assistance.
