Empathy :
Understanding problems through human needs is fundamental to what we do, we start with the users and what they care about and need.
Needs and insights are only things that you can find by talking to and observing people.
What do people care about?
What is important to them?
What do they need?

Human-centered design is a practical, repeatable approach to arriving at innovative solutions. Think of these Methods as a step-by-step guide to unleashing your creativity, putting the people you serve at the center of your design process to come up with new answers to difficult problems.
Empathy is the foundation of a human-centered design process (to better understand the client's needs that could be solved by your product/service)
To empathize, you:
Observe. View users (possible clients) and their behavior in the context of their lives.
Engage. Interact with and interview users through both scheduled and short casual encounters.
Immerse. Experience what your user experiences.
In grouping the material in the poster you are looking for common or contrasting elements in what you found.
What did you find that people have in common?
What did you find that was different?
What was surprising?
Capture the different groups on virtual post-its and move the post-its to show what fits in each category.
If there are differences, then capture the differences on a spectrum (line).
