physical education

P.E. is a fun class. I could not participate in the activities we did because I had surgery on my left meniscus over the summer and later on in the middle of the year but it looked like the rest of the class is having fun.

Hypo kinetic disease project

This was one of our only projects in P.E. We learned a lot about the body and I have never been more interested in the different parts of the body and how they work. Recently in P.E. we have been learning about hypo kinetic diseases. For this project we had to research one of the diseases and make a poster on it. The poster needed to have images, an explanation of the disease, the health component of fitness it affects, exercises or activities that help improve the disease, and the impact the disease has on the population of the United States.

Our group decided that we would do our project on type two diabetes because we all had friends or family members that had it. We made a poster with the symptoms, effects on diagnosed person, treatments, and important facts about the disease. To find the information we had to do some research and look through different websites to find the right information. some of the information was different so we had to look at multiple resources.

Concepts

Definition: Diabetes mellitus type 2 (also known as type 2 diabetes) is a long-term metabolic disorder that is characterized by high blood sugar, insulin resistance, and relative lack of insulin. Type 2 diabetes primarily occurs as a result of obesity and lack of exercise.

Symptoms:

  • Increased hunger (especially after eating)
  • Dry mouth.
  • Frequent urination.
  • Unexplained weight loss (even though you are eating and feel hungry)
  • Fatigue (weak, tired feeling)
  • Blurred vision.
  • Headaches.

Treatment and care: Type 2 diabetes requires constant management. It's important for diabetics to check their blood sugar regularly to make sure it's not too high. Taking the right doses of medication is necessary in helping to keep glucose levels normal. Lifestyle habits, such as a healthy diet and exercise, can also help regulate blood glucose.

Components of Fitness: Diabetics can do all of the 5 health component of fitness. The only thing that imitates them is if there blood pressure is too high, or too low making them unable to do activities that use lots of energy because they can possibly faint.

Activities to help decrease the chances of getting the Hypo-kinetic disorder - Some activities that can help people reduce the chances of getting type two diabetes are walking, Tai Chi (a series of movements performed in a slow and relaxed manner over 30 minutes), Weight training , Yoga, Swimming and Stationary Bicycling.

Type Two diabetes on a National Level - 29.1 million people in the United States have diabetes, but 8.1 million may be not be diagnosed and unaware of their condition. About 1.4 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in United States every year. More than one in every 10 adults who are 20 years or older have diabetes

Reflection

In this project i was not here to help my group because i had surgery on my knee. i was only at school on Monday which we used to blue print our project. we researched a few things and made sure we all agreed on what we were going to do. my group had to help me catch up on the work i missed. i cannot really say that i enjoyed working with my group because i was not there but it seemed like it was a fun project.
