Admissions
The application window is open on November 1st through early January for the upcoming school year. Parents and students interested in the NBI program are highly encouraged to schedule a tour where they will have an orientation to the program, visit classrooms, and meet the teachers.
All students are welcome to apply to the NBI program whether they live within the city of Novato or reside elsewhere. If you are interested in NBI, then we are interseted in you!
Minimum Requirements* for Acceptance - Review of School Records (Previous 2 Years)
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.0 or a "C" average for transcripts displaying letter grades only
- Good Attendance - No Truancies
- Good Behavior - No Suspensions or Expulsions
- Quality of student responses on the application form.
*We understand that student success is measured in multiple ways and that school records don't tell a student's full story. If you are passionate about what NBI offers and you don't meet the minimum requirements listed above, you are still encouraged to apply and share your personal story.
Application Process & Criteria
- Complete an application form.
- Submit school records (academic, attendance, discipline). You will receive a form to sign in January.
- Students who meet minimum requirements will be selected by lottery** as follows:
- Priority will be given to students who reside within the Novato High School boundaries.
- Secondary priority will be given to students who reside within Novato Unified School District.
- There will be a lottery for any seats not filled by residents of Novato.
- All others will be placed on a waiting list according to their lottery position.
**A lottery is used for selection to ensure that all applicants who meet the minimum requirements have equal access to the program and represent the diverse population of Novato High School's campus.
