Goals

Goals for this season

I am not in my competition season, but since I practice year-round it is still nice to have certain goals. This "season" is when I am starting to learn new skills to eventually move up to the next level. I want to acheive this goal by the end of the school year, and measure my progress until then. My goal is to be able to do a layout fly away by the end of the school year. That is a skill that is on bars, and I am can do a skill similar to it, so it will be a challenge but not unachievable. I am going to measure this goal by seeing how much closer I am to doing it at the end of each week. I will record a video of the place I am at right now, then I will again at the end to see if I acheived it.

Season Performance Evaluation

I feel like this season has been going pretty well. Since I am not competing at the moment, I feel like this has been a very productive season. Gymnastics is a very mental sport, and I feel like it has a lot of phsycological benefits. I am not under the usual stress of having to compete, so practice is a way for me to forget about everything difficult and a way to get rid of any tension. It can become very mental in a bad way sometimes, but overall it is a great way to just get rid of whatever is on my mind that day, and have a fun practice with my friends. I have been making some progress with my goal, but it is still a lot of repetition. When I first decided on my goal, I had a cast away flyaway, which is a skill on bars. It is a type of back flip off of the bar, and I am trying to make it from a tuck to straight body, which is a layout. I have been working on making the flip bigger. I also connected another skill to it, which is a small improvement. I am going to continue to work this, so I can get the skill. Gymnastics is more of an individual sport than a team sport, but that doesn't mean there isn't any leadership involved. While we warm up, we have several levels come together. There are certain times when the coaches aren't able to tell us what to do to warm up, so a couple other teammates and I help the younger teammates to start. A couple days out of the week I help decide on what elements to do to warmup. There are also other times just during everyday practice when someone has to step up and tell the rest of my team what to do. Everyone has their own goals to focus on, but there are always times when we need to come together as a group, and I can help be a leader in that.
