Work
We were assigned the task to create an outdoor furniture piece to put somewhere either around our high school or in a garden at a nearby elementary school. We decided to go with a location at our high school, outside of the art classroom. My team and I choose this location because it allows the art students to create their pieces outside and have more room to put their pieces. Another reason we choose this spot is because it is a good spot for students to sit at lunch. Many students are either crammed in to the cafeteria or sit somewhere on the benches around the campus. The problem with those benches is that they don't have any nearby table or areas to put their stuff except for on the floor and on the bench, our table allows them to have an area to eat lunch in a relatively quiet area with a place to put their stuff down. It is also a relatively unique design and is pleasant to look at.
Materials
We are using con heart wood for the seats of our table which gives it a cleaner and softer look to the table while also keeping the students who use the tables splinter free. The supports and table of the table are made up of con common wood which gives it a textured look and adds diversity to the table while, again, keeps the students who use the table and bench splinter free. The frame and posts of the wood are going to be made out of pressure treated wood because it has a splintery effect to it, but is a cheaper option than con heart or common, so we are using it on the parts least touched by the people who use it. The estimated price for this table is around $600 dollars which is a bit pricey but is half the price of a rounded picnic table made out of metal which averages around $1,200.
