ISPE-Fall

Intro To Athlete

My name is Joey Cook, and in the fall season of 2021 I was the quarterback on San Marin's Varsity football team. This was my second season as the Varsity quarterback. I have been playing football since I was ten years old. I played youth football on the San Marin Youth Football team and I also played flag football. Before high school I played baseball, basketball, and I was on the Stingray swim team. I love playing sports and I am very competitive. I was on the little league baseball All Stars every year I was eligible, I always made the Marin Swim League All Stars, I even won the MSL Championships one year, and was a football All Star.

I live with my parents, next door to my grandfather, and across the street from my great-grandmother, who is 97. I have a twin sister, Katie, and a younger brother, John. In my free time I like to work on football, go to the gym, and spend time with my grandparents.

Football is a very demanding sport, muscular strength and endurance is very important because games and practices are very physical. Cardiorespiratory fitness is important and is the foundation to strength and endurance. Not all football players are flexible or have a healthy body composition, however, in skill positions like wide receiver, free saftety, and quarterback peak body composition is usually the result of training.

Being a good quarterback requires developing all skill related fitness components. Agility and reaction time are important in escaping defenders and finding an open receiver. Balance and power are important in executing the mechanics of a good throw, and speed and coordination are important when my only option is to run the ball.

I am playing with a 7on7 team this winter and will continue to work with my quaterback coaches. I hope to play football in college and the NFL. Although, I know both are tough goals to achieve, I am determined.
