Technical Theatre 2

with Mr. Steven Hess

Description:

This was my second year in tech. I really enjoyed it last year, so I'm doing it again this year! Our class got a lot of new additions this year. We had around 17 people last year, and now we have 26. This year was completely different from last year. We have a new teacher, so the structure of the curriculum, the projects, and the style of this class just felt different. That isn't to say it wasn't fun; it was still very enjoyable.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee:

This was the first production we worked on this year! It was a musical. Last year, I did not participate in any musicals, only the plays, so it was a new experience for me. I think I found it more fun to do than the plays though. The songs were amazing as well. The play review I wrote for this musical is featured below.

King Lear Unit Set Design:

For our final, we were tasked to create a set design based off of Shakespeare's King Lear. Over the course of several weeks, we first built a model of our theater. It was to scale, each foot being represented by a quarter inch. After making the poster board theater, we then designed our own unit sets for the show with a partner to present on the day of the final. It was totally up to us how we wanted to create it, but the whole purpose of the unit set was minimal props and tech work. We wanted pieces to be versatile and have different meaning, taking into consideration lighting, movement, and positioning. We also created a research folder with our inspiration pictures along with notes on them as proof of our work.

Something Rotten:

The spring musical was called Something Rotten. This musical had way bigger cast than last semester, as there were more characters to be played. I really enjoyed working on this musical. We spent a few months in advance designing the set, and I was able to design and paint a house that was used in the background. It was also really fun backstage, working with other tech members. It was sad that there were quite a few seniors who were doing their last show, but overall, the whole thing was extremely enjoyable, and I will come back next year.
