DNA to disease

Description:

The idea behind this project is to detail what protein synthesis is and how it works, give a general background of a disease and the efects of it,  and to compare a normal protein to a deseased protein. All of this information will first be arranged on a document with targeted research questions to help with the final step of the project. The final step of the project is making a single slide to present in front of the class.

Content:

Sickle cell is disease caused in major organs that negatively affects red blood cells by changing the shape from a circular figure to a sickle shape. These sickle cells die earlier leaving little to no healthy red blood cells and can cause many symptoms. Symptoms include anemia, pain in the affected organ and blood vessels due to blocking, acute chest syndrome, pooling in the spleen, strokes, jaundice, and priapism. At the moment, a bone marrow transplant is the only cure for some sickle cell patients as of now.

Transcription is when the information in a strand of DNA is copied into a new molecule of mRNA. This takes place in the cytoplasm. The DNA code is then read and translated into RNA witch then becomes messenger RNA (mRNA) and goes to the nucleus. Translation occurs in the ribasomes, in the cytoplasm of the cell.

Reflection:

Durring the project there was some things that went well and some that did not. A couple things that went well was creating the slide. We all contributed equally and put in good effort to make it looking good. Another thing that went well was the presentation itself. We divided the presentation up to have it so that everyone has at least one part to say. A couple of things that did not go so well was filling out the question doc in the beginning. In the beginning we were not working very well on it so we had to work really hard near the end of the project to get it complete.  A problem we cam across was that we thought that we had to do a full slide show when really we were supposed to be doing one single slide. In the end, we ended up with a good, high quality, Research questions doc and slide. The six Cs we used were the communicator and collaborator as we all communicated well and collaborated equally on each project.
