Solve a world problem

Solve a world problem

In my group, It was me Carlos, Drew, and Michael S. We started off our research with each of us finding 3 different sources for information on lack of sleep, with 2 of the websites being certified. After we annotated the three websites, we started brainstorming what the biggest problem with lack of sleep was. We settled on trying to solve all of the problems with a sleep kit. It had items for preparation of going to bed to help you fall asleep. like blue light glasses, humidifier, and magnesium. Then we added items for when your asleep so you can get the maximum comfort. We had a pillow, blanket, and white noise machine.

2)Content

Engineering design cycle:

1) identify need- After brainstorming, we decided to solve lack of sleep because it is something everyone can struggle with.

2) research- We researched what the biggest problem was holding people back from getting sleep. We spent a day on this to make sure we picked a good cause of lack of sleep

3):Brainstorm- We thought of making a supplement drink at first but realized it could be unsafe to drink every night.

4)solution- we decided to create a sleep kit with all the best sleep products in it to maximize the comfort of our buyers.

5)prototype: we brought in a pillow, blanket, white noise machine, humidifier, blue light glasses, and magnesium for our sleep kit.

6)test and evaluate: I went home with all the products and tested them. They were all great and I got the best sleep I've had in a while.

7)Redesign: We later on decided to take away the white noise machine because the humidifier already makes noise.

8)communicate: My group and I presented our ideas to my stem engineering and physics class.

data analysis:

We selected our data sets by looking up sleep ranges within gender, and sleep ranges within age. We found that men usually get less sleep than woman nowadays. Also =, we found out that as you get older, sleep gets more rare. Which makes sense because the older you get, the easier it is to be diagnosed with a sleep disorder.

3)Reflection

I think 2 things that I did well with this project was character and critical thinking. I had empathy for me and my group the whole time, and was thinking with a growth mindset. Also, when it came down to finding a solution, I used my critical thinking to help find a solution. 2 Things I could have done better were collaboration. We should have arranged things better and done our own sections of the slides. Going off collaboration, our communication could have been better. We would do our own things without organizing anything.
