Monarch Waystations
Monarch Waystations
A truly effective Monarch Waystation can be added into any garden. Monarch Watch recommends that a certified waystation should be at least 100 square feet holding the appropriate native plants, although there is no minimum requirement.

My Girl Scout troop (31068) along with help from community volunteers, including Marin SEL from Terra Linda High School, built a Monarch Waystation that is fully active and functional! We encountered some problems a year after it was finished like crab grass began invading our plant boxes, blocking the milkweed and other important plants. This issue made for a good learning experience: Clear the garden area well and consider weed netting below your plant boxes. Plan to regularly amend the soil, check your garden for pests, and weed often.
Thank you to Charlotte Torgovitsky from Home Ground Habitats for consulting
our troop through this process.
