Immigration Travels

Ramat HaSharon

On July 7th, 2006, Renée was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. She was then raised in a nearby town called Ramat HaSharon for the next 15 years. She adored where she lived because of the close proximity to the city and the beach.

"My whole life in suitcases" - Renée

Israel to America

In the summer of 2021, when Renée was 15, the Perlmutters moved their whole lives to America. Their initial plan was to move a couple of years earlier, but those plans got interrupted by COVID. After growing up in a Western-influenced household, Renée's dad had always wanted to live in America. When Renée's mom got a job offer in America, "she immediately said yes and we moved." Before immigrating to Israel, Renée's grandfather grew up in Winthrop, Massachusetts. This is the reason the Perlmutters immigrated to the Greater Boston area because they still had some relatives living there. However, the reason for moving specifically to Needham is a little more unique.

Why Needham?

Valerie

Valerie is the Perlmutter's 13 year old family dog. When looking for housing in the Greater Boston area, Needham was the only one that fit their criteria. Needham is close to the city and has the Commuter Rail for easy access to Renée's mom's work. Needham also has a great education system. Most importantly, the house they found in Needham allowed for their beloved pet to join their immigration story. Renée explains her current house "was the only house that allowed a 100 pound dog, we said she was 60 pounds just to be safe. Like nobody wanted Valerie. We lied and put a picture of her as a puppy."
