When Liviu and his family made it to the United States, they lived in New York. When moving to the United States, Liviu's family needed a sponsor. Coincidentally, his mom's cousins lived in New York at the time and were able to sponsor his family. Adjusting to the new life in America was not easy, as one might assume. Liviu mentions in the interview that he "learned how to speak English by watching cartoons, Mighty Mouse cartoons on the TV." When it came to school work, Liviu's cousin, who was only about a week younger than him, helped him out while he was learning the new language. After living in New York for his teenage and young adult years, Liviu was able to become a journalist, and he claims that "New York was a great city to grow up in."

The 1986 World Series is a heartbreaking Red Sox moment that Liviu will never forget
Liviu ended up moving to Boston chasing a girlfriend (their relationship didn't last long); however, he always had a profound love for the city of Boston. The Boston Red Sox "were always my second favorite team" says Liviu. Of course while living in New York he preferred the Yankees to the Red Sox, but he has let go of his Yankee fandom and is now a huge Red Sox fan. Liviu still enjoys visiting New York and it holds sentimental value to him, but due to the fact that he has lived almost half of his life in Boston, he now sees himself as a true Bostonian.
