Liron had family in Cambridge, MA, so in 1988, she applied for a visa as a tourist to vacation and get to know the area. At 21 years old, it was her first time abroad and first time on a plane. "I went by myself, and it was very scary but exciting", said Liron. During her year-long stay in the country, she met her husband and fell in love.
Unfortunately, in June 1989, her visa expired, and she had to travel back to Israel. The only way she could go back was to come as a student, so she applied for community college because college in America was so expensive. After coming here for a year, she had to spend six months back in Israel because it was America's way of knowing that the students that come here really want to stay here. After six months, she came back to America and went to college at Bunker Hill Community College. By then, she started to become very accustomed to living in Cambridge. "I missed my family and country. Being away is hard, but I was in love, and I loved my life here", Liron said.
Tuition for foreign students is almost triple that of an American's tuition, so it was very expensive; especially because it had to come out of Liron's pocket. Even worse, she was not allowed to work because the visa did not let her and she did not have social security, so it was extremely difficult to support herself. All in all, she realized she wanted to marry her boyfriend, and it was apparent to her and her boyfriend that if they married, it would be much easier for her to go to school. Then, she would be able to work and could establish her life.
That was when she decided she wanted to stay in America because it was too hard to be here without being married. She knew he was the person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. “I was just no reason to wait anymore, as painful as it was. I realized I would be away from my country and my family, but I wanted to start a family” Liron said. So, in 1990, Liron got married and then bought a condominium in Cambridge with her husband.

After getting married and moving into their condo in Cambridge, Liron and her husband had their first daughter four years later, in 1994. They then moved to Foxborough and established a home there. She moved to Foxborough because the condo was not big enough, and they lived on the third floor without a yard; because Liron grew up in such a rural farming community, she wanted the same for her kids, “I wanted my kids to be able to hop on their bike and go down the street”, Liron said. In Foxborough, Liron had two more kids: her first son in 1999, and her second daughter in 2003.
She still visits family in Israel at least once a year, there are years when she goes twice, her kids have also all gone. Liron still feels very close to Israel and still misses it. She said that she still listens to only Israeli music, does Israeli dancing, is very involved in Israeli culture and works at Temple Beth Shalom. She said it was very nice to be able to be in a supportive community.
