Introduction

My 4th-great grandparents, John and Jane Burkitt were the first generation of "Bakers" to come to the United States. Although their story happened many centuries ago, it provides a lens into their lives along with many others lives at the time, and how their legacies have continued into the future. John Burkitt and Jane Everett both lived in Cambridgeshire, England, and quickly got married in October of 1870 in Ely, Cambridgeshire.
