At first I focused on the concept of motivation, targeting where and what made me feel motivated. Inspired by Nike Adawi and Lucinda Rogers' use of figures in dynamic urban spaces, I aimed to make optimistic environments that reflect potential for my future-self. While excited about the future, I am often overcome by anxiety on how to get there. To express this dichotomy, I used distorted perspectives and directional elements reflecting stressful uncertainty, joint with bold, vibrant colors symbolizing excitement. Together, I aim to capture the thrill and stress of navigating and envisioning the future.
My focus shifted during inquiry #4 through interviewing kids, realizing that imagining my future leads to pressure in deciding long-term plans instead of being present in the moment. I began exploring light & pathways, using rays evoking idealism & emphasis and literal/metaphorical paths moving towards the future. In inquiries #6-13, I adapted figures to show the potential of my projected self and the uncertainty of the unknown. I came to pair stress & excitement in inquiries #12-15 through contrasting colors & figures placed in chaotic surroundings. By capturing this intersection, I saw how we tend to focus on extremes over the present.
