In Albania, from a very young age Harry and his siblings were farmers, as that was the cultural norm there at the time. There were no options for schooling so farming was what consumed his day-to-day life. Although social media didn't exist and news didn't always reach the village, Harry along with others all over the world, somehow were aware that America was the land of opportunity. Harry and his brother John had their minds set on becoming entrepreneurs and in 1910, when Harry was 15, they came to Quincy Massachusetts. Another reason they decided to leave Albania was due to the country being under the control of the Ottoman Empire and martial law being placed on the country.
