"Donde no hay arboles yo pensaba que no habida vida."
(where there are no trees I thought there was no life )
-Francisca Brito
Learning and speaking the language was the most challenging barrier Francisca encountered upon arriving in America, and to this day, she remains very unfamiliar with it. Upon her arrival, she did not discover a supportive group, primarily relying on family members already residing in Massachusetts. Francisca said her inability to speak the language prevented her from fitting in, and she never integrated into American culture.
Regarding occupation, She was employed at Leavitt Corporation for several years before establishing her own daycare enterprise, ultimately retiring from childcare work in 2002.
Despite not completely integrating into American culture, she kept preparing her family's traditional Dominican meals because that was how she preserved her Dominican culinary traditions.
