Amelia moved to the United States in 1993. She moved to the USA to follow her ex-husband who moved to Massachusetts. She wanted better oppurtunities for her and her family. Amelia made the hard decision to leave her two sons behind in Brazil, so they could learn the Brazilian culture and language while she was finding their father.

Were you scared to move to the United States?
"I moved here by myself. I was not scared to move because I was a very aggressive girl, that didn't have a lot of fear about anything. If I wanted to do something I would do it." -Amelia Khirallah
What did you know about the United States before moving here?
"I knew enough to know that there was a much better chance for people to restart their life and achieve their goals than where I was coming from. When I got here I knew it was where I wanted my kids to go to school." -Amelia Khirallah
