Welcome to Fourth Grade

Welcome to fourth grade! My name is Dana Bott. This is my 24th year teaching in Kenosha Unified School District. Before coming to 5th grade at Pleasant Prairie 21 years ago, I taught math and science at McKinley Middle School. I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade this year. I have 3 children, Payton is a Sophomore at Loras College, Madison is a Junior, and Caroline is in 4th Grade at PPE this year. I have 3 dogs, a border collie and 2 boston terriers. I also love to go camping and hiking with my family and reading.

Math: We will be using the Bridges math curriculum. There will be a 20 minute Number Talk daily in addition to the regular math lesson. Students will have a Number Talk workbook and a regular math workbook. We are starting the year focusing on multiplication and division models as well as prime and composite numbers.

Social Studies: We will be starting the year learning about Maps. This year will also have a focus on Wisconsin.

Science: We will be starting the year with a unit on Energy Conversions.

Reading at home: Students are asked to read a minimum of 30 minutes a night. This won’t be logged. It should be an enjoyable experience. Reading to younger siblings counts. Reading with mom or dad counts as well.

Birthdays: We love to celebrate birthdays. There are some guidelines we need to follow according to Kenosha Unified School District. All treats must be store bought (no homemade treats).

I am looking forward to a great year! Please email me or send a note in your child’s assignment notebook with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Bott dbott@kusd.edu
