Coach Scott Crall- Head Men's Coach- Sprint Coach

Coach Crall graduated from Oak Grove High School, where he was an all state football player, state qualifier in track, and also excelled on the basketball court.  Coach Crall graduated from Missouri Valley College with a bachelor’s degree, and continued his education by receiving his masters degree in athletic administration, and a specialist degree in administration from William Woods University.  Coach Crall started his teaching and coaching career as his alma mater Oak Grove where he spent 7 years.  Coach Crall also spent 1 year at Truman, and has spent the last 16 years at Kearney High School.  He has spent the last 11 years as the boys head track coach.  Coach Crall is married to Sherry Crall who is the high school librarian.  They have 4 girls (Hannah 29, Halee 29, Brynn 20, and Malia 15).  Coach Crall is looking forward for the upcoming season.  The boys will be defending another conference title this season.  In 2021 the boys brought home a 2nd place trophy at state  and won the very first State Championship in shool history in 2022.

Coach Geoff Hutton- Head Women's Coach - Hurdles Coach

Coach Hutton is entering his 37th season . He was a head Track Coach for 31 years and spent 17 years as an Offensive Coordinator in football and eventually Head Cross Country Coach before retiring 4 years ago from Kirksville Schools.

Coach Hutton has been married to his wonderful wife Ann for 31 years. Coach has three kids, Rachel Daniels, Rebecca Lilley and Jacob Hutton; two Son in Laws, Chris Daniels and Patrick Lilley. Coach Hutton has four wonderful grandkids, that made their decision to move to Kearney very easy, Nora Daniels, Millie Daniels, Griffin Lilley and Gabe Lilley.

Coach Hutton led the girls to a 3rd place trophy in 2022!  This year they are the DEFENDING 2023 Class 4 State Champions!

Coach Kenny Brown- Pole Vault Coach

Coach Brown is a Kearney graduate, Class of 1981. He was the 3A State Champion in the Pole Vault that year. Coach Brown has a degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology and he manages the Biomedical Department at Liberty Hospital where he has worked for the last 38 years.  Coach Brown began volunteering part time in 1984 helping with the pole vaulters after graduating college.  Some years he has helped more than others until all 3 of his children were in school and then he began to be there more often.  At some point during Bill Skillman’s tenure as AD the school decided to hire Coach Brown as a full time Assistant Coach.  He has been an assistant to 7 different head coaches.  Coach Brown has coached many All Conference, All District, All Sectional and All State athletes as well as 3 State Champions. He also was privileged to coach his own daughter who went to Park University on a track scholarship.

Coach Brown married his high school sweetheart Kristi (Pfeiffer) Brown in 1984 and they have continued to live in Kearney.  They have 3 children, Garrett, Garth and Elaina(Laini) and 2 grandchildren Dayton and Kale who belong to Garth.

Coach Chris Daniels- Discus/Javelin Coach

Coach Daniels is in his 7th year with the Bulldogs. Coach Daniels is responsible for coaching the discus and javelin throwers. Coach Daniels came to Kearney from Kirksville, MO where he was the head football coach for 3 years. Coach Daniels teaches World History at the Junior High.  He and his wife, Rachel, enjoy everyday spent raising Eleanor and Millie.  

    Coach Daniels completed his Master's degree at Emporia State University, played college football at Drake University, and loves living in Kearney as every day is a great day to be a Bulldog! While at Drake, Coach Daniels earned his bachelor's degree in education, was named to ESPN's Academic All-American team in 2005, and attended the NCAA leadership council.

Coach Rachel Daniels- Shot Put Coach

Coach Daniels is in her 3rd year with the Bulldogs. Coach Daniels is responsible for coaching the shot put. 

Coach Daniels teaches English Language Arts at Kearney Middle School. This is her 2nd year in the district; she came from Lathrop where she taught 6th and 7th grade English Language Arts for 5 years. Coach Daniels and her husband, Chris, have a 2 daughters named Nora and Millie.  Coach Daniels completed her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Truman State University. 


Coach Tom O'Brien- Middle Distance Coach/Distance

This is Coach O’Brien’s 43nd year of coaching track. He is  presently coaching the 400m/800m . Coach O’Brien taught school 35 years full and part time and also coached football for 13 years, basketball for 13 years, and cross country for 17 years. Coach O’Brien is married to Cindy, a former vice principal at Kearney HS, who spent 45 years of teaching and administration.  Coach O’Brien has 2 daughters, Dr. Jaime Dial, administrator for the Park Hill School district and Taren Martin, associate women's head basketball coach for UAB.

Coach Therese Rankin- Jump Coach

Coach Rankin has coached Track and Field for 37 years.  She now coaches Men's and Women's Triple/High/Long Jump.

Other athletic programs that she has coached include; Tennis 12 years, Women's Basketball 7th,  8th, and 9th grade 16 years.

Coach Richard Haas - Jump Coach

Coach Haas has been teaching and coaching for 42 years.   Works closely with coach Rankin with the long and triple jumpers.   Over the years have coached several sports, including varsity and junior high football, varsity and junior high wrestling and track.  Have coached various parts of track and field.  Having coached the throwers, distance runners and jumpers over my many years.  I enjoy being a part of a successful program here at Kearney, and the great people and kids that I have the honor of working with.  My wife Nancy is a teacher for the Excelsior Springs school district and is often called at the last minute to help at meets.  I have two married children, who both participated in track in high school.  My daughter competed in track at the collegiate level and son competed in football at the collegiate level also.  I have 4 grandchildren that are very interested in sports.

Coach Mel White - Pole Vault

Mel is our assistant pole vault coach for both the junior high and high school track teams. This is Mel’s second year at Kearney high school and her eleventh year coaching pole vault.  She brings a fun and caring personality to practice. The most rewarding part of coaching for her is to teach her athletes the skills of the sport and see their love for the sport grow! When she is not coaching Mel works as a pediatric occupational therapist, enjoys live music, travel and being outdoors!
