WORLD LANGUAGE
I have been taking Spanish since third grade, and beyond graduation requirements, I have taken Pre-AP Spanish IV and AP Spanish. Spanish has opened me up to being advanced in a third language, and it has taught me the differences in culture. This has led me to be more globally oriented. I have learned about Spanish customs, foods, traditions, and a lot about the history and importance of globalization within Spanish-speaking regions of the world. This year, during AP Spanish, we spent a lot of time learning about issues in Spanish-speaking regions, about the increase of technology, and what researchers have been doing to combat this issue. This course has strengthened my communication skills and my interest in global studies.
SERVICE LEARNING
Service Learning allowed me to build a better understanding of SDG #3, Good Health and Well-Being. I worked on a project with Hyanne Souza named A.D.A.A. (Alcohol and Drug Awareness in Adolecense) our goal was to educate and help those who struggled with drug and alcohol usage. Although this project is not what I am pursuing I obtained a lot of useful knowledge. Pursuing Honors in this class, I watched a documentary, Living On One Dollar by Chris Temple, Zach Ingrasci, Sean Leonard, and Ryan Christofferson, I learned about fighting poverty and wrote a reflection paper.
INTRO TO GLOBAL CITIZENS PROGRAM
Intro to GCP educated me on what it truly means to be a Global Citizen. In this class, I learned about the SDG goals and ongoing global issues through plenty of research and presentations, created a PSA video, and addressed problems in our school community.
FASHION THROUGH THE AGES
Fashion Through the Ages taught me about the effect fashion industry bringing into other nations and how it impacted third-world countries. There were projects where I would have to create outfits with recycled items and old clothing pieces. In this course I also learned how to sew and made a bandana top using the backstitch and whipstitch method. Fashion Through the Ages gave me multiple opportunities to present and improve my ability to communication and confidence skills.
Public Art
In Public Art I have contributed to collavorative and individual public art projects. I painted a ceiling tile for Mr. Blood of a pottery. I have also explored watercolor painting which has shaped my understanding of color blending, different tecniques, and expression. In addition I participated in a tape art project with my class and other classes where we planned, collaborated, and contributed to Studio360.
Suburban Homesteading in America
In Suburban Homesteading I am learning how to be more self-sufficient while living in a suburban enviroment. So far, I have begun developing homesteading skills such as making homeade products and growing my own food. I have made soap using goat's milk, oatmeal, honey, and more which has helped me learn about natural ingredients, their purpose, and different methods. I have also started planting vegetables, herbs, and flowers which help me understand basic gardening skills, seasonal growing, and plant care.
Adventure Education and Leadership
Adventure Ed and Leadership focuses on building teamwork and communication through new and challenging experiences. Although I have just recently started this clurse, I hope to build an understanding on the importance of leadership and collaboration in group settings. I hope this class will help me step out of my comofort zone and improve my confidence in working with others. I hope to strengthen my leadership skills, communication skills, and to support and motivate a team.
AP Microeconomics
In microeconomics I studied topics such as supply and demand, pricing, and how consumers and firms behave in markets.
AP Macroeconomics
In macroeconomics I learned about larger economic systems such as inflation, unemployment, and economic growth.
Microeconomics and macroeconomics helped me understand how individuals, businesses, and the government makes decisions about resources. These courses allowes me to connect economic decision making to real world issues, such as how local choices and gloval systems affect communities and sustainability. This helped me understand how policy and consumer behavior can impact society.
