The Franklin High School Hall of Fame Class of 2018 Inductees have been selected. This year’s distinguished group includes Dr. Robert Mays, Elizabeth Bodnar Kindlon, Josh Moore, and Scott Moore.The Hall of Fame of Franklin High School was created to honor those individuals or groups whose actions or achievements in their chosen field, bring honor and distinction to the heritage of Franklin High School.
For outstanding achievement, Dr. Robert Mays, FHS Class of ‘83, was an All State football standout and graduated third in his class. After graduating with a Doctorate in Molecular and Cellular Physiology, he co-founded and is currently the Vice President of Regenerative Medicine and Head of Neuroscience Research at Athersys Inc., which focuses on developing novel and proprietary best-in-class therapies designed to extend and enhance the quality of human life.
In the category of athletics, Elizabeth Bodnar Kindlon, Class of ‘95, was the first Track and Field State Champion in school history. Liz won the AAA High Jump at 5’ 7” in the Spring of 1995. Her outstanding FHS record stood prominent for nearly 20 years and helped pave the way for all future FHS Track and Field athletes.
Also for athletics, twin brothers, Josh and Scott Moore, Class of ‘99, will likely have two of the most successful FHS wrestling careers.
Josh Moore was a four-time Regional Champion and three-time State Placewinner during a dominating time in Franklin Wrestling. He excelled collegiately at Penn State where he was a two-time NCAA Division I All American and was second in the nation during his senior year. He still holds many PSU wrestling records. He currently is coaching at Cleveland State University.
Scott Moore was a three-time District 10 Champion, Regional Champion, and two-time State Placewinner. He excelled at Penn State University, as well as the University of Virginia. He was a two-time NCAA Division I All American and was third in the nation as a senior at UV. In 2004, his record breaking season was rewarded by being named the University of Virginia Male Athlete of the Year. He currently is the Head Coach at Lock Haven University and was selected PSAC Coach of the Year, this past season.
This outstanding class will be officially inducted on October 4, during Franklin’s Applefest celebration, at a banquet at the Quality Inn. Tickets can be reserved for the event by calling the Franklin High School Office or inquire by email to smithd@fasd.k12.pa.us.
