Sharing by Benjamin C.K. Tee and Ng Wei Beng
As a means to expand my knowledge in the possible courses under biology in university, I decided to attend the informative talk on material science and engineering.
The sharing encompassed sharings by Associate professor Benjamin C.K. Tee and Associate professor Ng Wei Beng, where they shared about their research in the biomedical field.
Associate professor Benjamin C.K. Tee specialises in the use of Artifical Intelligence (A.I.) to develop electromechanical sensor materials, self-healing devices, stretchable electronics, and the development of neuro-skin paired devices. His knowledge in developing and improving current medical devices has been pivotal in making recovery a more enjoyable proccess.
Associate Professor Ng Wei Beng specialises in the use of biomedical polymeric materials, and his research extends to nanoscale modifications of materials, enhancing properties like surface roughness for improved cell adhesion and drug loading for enhanced therapeutic efficacy.
Similar to numerous enthusiasts of crime-related subjects, my interest in forensic science germinated from my exposure to crime shows on television. From an early age, I was extremely curious to learn about methodologies employed by researchers, since many could swiftly identify culprits. And true enough, the webinar afforded me a valuable glimpse into the methodologies harnessed by researchers to unveil suspects and the meticulous precautions inherent in fieldwork. Particularly significant for me was a statement made by one of the professors: "Forensic science applies scientific principles to serve the law and the justice system." This encapsulation aptly underscored the pivotal role of forensic science in supporting legal and judicial endeavors.

The "World in the Eyes of Jumping Spiders" webinar proved to be an engaging webinar that provided valuable insights into the realm of Jumping Spiders. Evidently, the hour-long session proved to be both enlightening and enjoyable, as the presenter expounded upon his comprehensive research concerning jumping spiders. The most important takeaway from the presentation was the realisation that the animal kingdom, irrespective of scale, boasts a plethora of captivating attributes. This newfound appreciation has invariably kindled an enhanced enthusiasm within me to embark on a more extensive exploration of the diverse creatures that inhabit our world.
