I had the opportunity to try outdoor cooking, which gave me a chance to interact more with the people around me. It also served as a stress reliever, especially since I was preparing for my N levels that year, and it provided a more relaxed and enjoyable environment. My friends and I were also talking with others about the N levels, sharing our worries and concerns.
I had the opportunity to learn how to build a raft and play kin-ball which were all new and exciting experiences for me. What made it even more meaningful was that I got to do these activities with my new classmates, as I had just entered Secondary 3.
Through these activities, I was able to develop important skills such as teamwork, communication, and creativity. These skills will not only help me in school projects and group work but will also benefit me in the future.
One challenge I faced while building the raft was struggling to tie the ropes tightly, which caused the raft to fall apart. However, through teamwork, we were able to solve the problem and successfully fix it.
Through this WEP, I learnt various things about the F&B industry. It was very helpful as they taught us the basics of making a latte and we got to try it out ourselves.
Learning how to roast coffee beans to make coffee as well, learning valuable and essential things about the industry and how the instructors got into this particular industry. I found it really fascinating because it was something completely new to me.
This year, I took part in virtual cycling, and it turned out to be a challenging yet rewarding experience. Since I wasn’t particularly strong in cycling, I found it tough at first, but I was determined to give it my best effort. I pushed myself throughout the activity, and despite the difficulties, I stayed committed and didn’t give up.
Although my team didn’t win any prizes, I still found the experience meaningful and worthwhile. It helped me to improve my physical strength, especially in terms of building muscle and stamina.
One challenge I encountered during virtual cycling was pushing myself beyond my limits, as it turned out to be more difficult than I had expected.
I was usually scared of very fast and thrilling types of roller coasters. However, at the USS, with the encouragement of my friends, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try. I rode the ride called HUMAN and to my surprise, it wasn’t as terrifying as I had imagined—in fact, it was exciting and fun.
Having my friends by my side gave me the courage I needed. That experience deepened my appreciation for our friendship, and I genuinely hope we’ll remain close even after graduating from Secondary School.
We had the opportunity to visit Raffles Hotel, where we learned about the behind-the-scenes operations that contribute to creating a memorable experience for guests. I found the visit especially interesting, as it’s not a place I would usually have the chance to explore in Singapore.
My school took part in the KRO Road Race, which included both competitive and non-competitive categories for students. Some of my schoolmates participated in the competitive portion while others, like myself, joined the non-competitive segment to enjoy the experience.
The event took place at West Coast Park, and we had to complete a total distance of 4 kilometers. Even though I wasn’t racing competitively, I still found the experience enjoyable and meaningful. I made the most of it by cheering for my friends who were competing, showing them my support and encouragement along the way.
Shatec is well-known as a school specialising in hospitality and tourism, where we had the opportunity to learn the basics of the housekeeping department. I gained understanding into the various roles, responsibilities, and technologies essential in the hospitality industry. One of the practical skills I picked up was learning how to make a bed to hotel standards.
I chose guitar as my music elective because I’ve always found the instrument really cool and interesting. Watching people play guitar online made me want to experience it for myself when the opportunity came.
Joining the guitar elective also gave me the chance to meet students from other classes, which made the experience more enjoyable. We got to learn together and support one another, which helped me feel more connected. Trying something new like this was a good way for me to step out of my comfort zone.
I represented my house, Cassiopeia, in an Intra-school event in Ultimate Disc and managed to achieve 2nd place. I was very pleased with the result, especially after all the hard work we put into preparing for the competition.

In Secondary 3, we were required to attend Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) at Pulau Ubin. Initially, I wasn’t very excited about it, especially since I had to stay away from home and go without my phone for an entire week. However, my perspective quickly changed once I experienced it for myself.
During OBS, I had the chance to interact with students from different classes and even from other schools. It was a great opportunity to meet new and amazing people. I took part in activities like rock climbing, hiking, outdoor cooking, and kayaking.
Despite my initial hesitation, OBS turned out to be a meaningful experience. It pushed me beyond my comfort zone and allowed me to discover strengths I didn’t know I had. Most importantly, it taught me resilience, teamwork, and the importance of challenging myself.
