My name is KatieAnn Nguyen and I'm a Hmong-Vietnamese American. I'm from Santa Rosa, California, currently pursuing a degree at Dominican University of California in Chemistry while also being on the pre-med track.
From a young age, I've always enjoyed helping other people, and that passion inspired me to become a pediatrician. Helping and supporting others is a value that I hold close, and because of that I wanted to pursue a career in helping others. I've seen my family members frequent the hospital, and each time they've gone, it had an especially hard impact on my family. I want to be the kind of person that can provide comfort to others, allowing family members to come back home to their family, just as other doctors have done for mine. To become someone people can rely on and be able to offer support to others during hard times is a gift that I can only hope one day will come true.
I chose Dominican because of the small campus size as well as intimate class environments. Attending a small school such as Dominican allows for close relationships between my professors and I, allowing me to receive the extra support I need in classes and letting them get to know me as an individual. In addition, I wanted a school close to home and Dominican was the ideal location for me. Being so close to home allows me to commute to and from school, giving me the comforts of home along with enjoying the new experiences of college. At Dominican, it feels like a campus where I can feel welcomed and comfortable at, somewhere I can feel at ease and at home at.
The CliftonStrengths Test by Gallup identifies your top talents after you complete the assessment, allowing you to optimize your talents and choose activities that will best work with those talents. It will also provide insight into the reasoning behind your goals, actions, and future endeavors. By taking the Strengths test, I was able to put into perspective why I gravitated towards certain activities, such as leadership roles and community engagement activities, and why my goals were the way they were. It also allowed me to figure out how to apply these talents in real live settings that would best work with them and create opportunities for me that would best support my goals. The results I got from the CliftonStrengths Test were the themes of Includer, Achiever, Input, Empathy, and Relator. From these results, it helped me put into perspective my values and how they contribute to the person I am today and who I want to be in the future.
