My introduction to Dominican University of California was a pivotal moment for the trajectory of my education, and thus the foundation on which I will transform, learn, and grow from a student into a clinician. From day one, Dominican professed equity, inclusion, and diversity in their mission and they have so eloquently and consistently proven to me that they not only believe in those standards, but they live by them too.
The themes of their occupational therapy curriculum located in their occupational therapy handbook are enriched with these standards. They are intentional, clear, and taken seriously, and they aren't afraid to adjust and add to them in order to stay relevant and inclusive.
Effective occupational therapy practice is occupation-based and client-centered.
Excellent occupational therapy practice is research-driven and evidence-based.
Psychosocial dimensions of human performance are fundamental to all aspects of occupation and occupational therapy practice.
Social, cultural, and political contexts significantly shape occupational performance.
Occupations take place in communities.
The professors, the faculty, even the strangers that leisurely walk on campus have all met me with warmth, understanding, kindness, and sincerity. There is an overarching sense of belonging and compassion here at Dominican, a family of sorts, who values you and dreams of your success just as much as you do.
