During Psychosocial Aspects of Occupational 1 course, MSOT students have completed Interdisciplinary Collaborations in Mental Health by collaborating with Dominican nursing students. We examined the mental health related case study together and shared each professional's thoughts and point of views on the case. We learned how two different professionals can examine and approach the case in similar and different ways.
This workshop helped to broaden both sides of students' perspective on Mental Health.
During the school year, I took Hoarding and Cluttering Behaviors class that was offered in POTAC. Taking a class outside of the school helped to widen my view on OTs' role in mental health.
After the Matter of Balance coach training (MOB), I coached 8 weeks MOB program in Novato Community Center. Through the experience I learned fall hazard, fall prevention, problems that are associated with inactivity among older adults, and home modification. The program helped me to build a leadership role through coaching the participants. I got to practice active listening and motivational interviewing skills.
During Fall 2019, I attended the Interprofessional Educational Event to learn and experience other health professions' practice of scope. The event provided an opportunities to interview individuals who are already in the health field. I especially learned PA, nursing, case managers, first responders (chief of the fire department), global public health, and OTs in different fields.
Over the summer, our capstone team was invited to present our graduate thesis project to Ensign Therapy DOR Meeting what was held in Newport, CA. Through the experience, I was able to mingle around and interact with the health professionals in the Skilled Nursing Facilities. We presented the clinical pathway through 1 hour PowerPoint presentation and poster presentation.
