Providing students ample opportunity to collaborate with one another is vital to a successful learning environment. Students learn from each other all of the time and this power can be embraced in the classroom.
Students researched issues surrounding drought, clean water access and water shortages while reading A Long Walk to Water. In this exercise, students worked in groups of 4 to research waterborne illnesses. To connect this assignment to the novel, students had to work together to decide which of these 4 illnesses impacted the novel's protagonist.
