In an effective classroom, there is room for endless possibilities of demonstrating student knowledge.
This means, my classroom will provide space for the students to articulate what they already know, what they want to know and what they have learned in ways that best suit them.
Not all students can produce an essay on Energy as well as they could build an actual model (vice versa, etc.)
Understanding that each student is different and may need different outlets to express themselves academically and personally, is important to me.
As an educator, I build my lesson assessments around this fact - I must provide my students options. Thus, giving them agency in their own work. When we are given agency in our own work, we are creatively thinking for ourselves.
