Intro to Art

pepsi clay jar

I chose to make my jar a Pepsi can because it was honestly just one of the first random ideas I could think of. During the process of making this jar, I learned how delicate and fragile clay really is. I had to learn to be patient and calm. My goal for this project was simply to have the jar end up looking at least partially like a Pepsi can. I feel like I could do better the next time I'm working with anything clay related. My least favorite part about this piece is the way the lid is cut at a slant; however, my favorite parts about it are the word "PEPSI", and the tab on the lid of the can.

Clay whistle

I made my whistle in the form of a penguin with a top hat named Benny. I'm overall really happy with this piece. The mouth of the whistle is his tail and it actually whistles pretty loudly. I did have to restart this piece once or twice and the process took me about a little over two weeks to get the right volume, shape, and colors. I feel like I have improved since my last attempt at clay and I'm proud of this whistle. My favorite parts about Benny are his top hat and how loud it whistles.

underwater watercolor

I did an orange seahorse for my water color. I chose the complementary colors orange and blue. I'm not too happy with this piece because I feel like it's just not my best work. I enjoy more 3d clay projects rather than painting and water color stuff. I feel like I did a good job of drawing the actual animal, but I did a poor job with the coloring. I really enjoyed learning more about the color wheel and which colors look best together. Overall, I don't think this is one of my best works but I had fun making it and learning about water coloring!

bird prints

For my bird printing I chose to do this bird. If I'm being honest I have no clue what kind of bird this is but I think it was a blue one. I chose this bird because I needed a bird for this project and when I looked up pictures of birds I found this one. I also liked the fact that it is sitting on a branch. I made five final prints. The first print was just black ink on white paper, which I used for the cover print. The second print was dark blue ink on a piece of paper that I water colored on. The third print was just orange ink on green paper because I liked the contrast. The fourth print was white ink on a picture of people from the newspaper because I like the simplicity. The final print was a blend of blue, purple, and pink ink on a grey background. I had fun carving and printing this project. Overall I am proud of this project.
