Intro to Art

Hand Drawing

The art piece I have created is probably my favorite work, even though it was hard to nail the lines and the shadowing. Mr. Langmaack showed us a dot technique that helped tremendously with figuring out the picture's proportions. I remember when I was shading, I erased my entire thumb and back of my palm just because it was too 2-dimensional. The tips of the figures were especially hard to shade, but using my eyes and not my brain, I was able to figure it out. Drawing a picture of my hand was an amazing experience that made me proud and I finished knowing that I could draw better than I ever thought possible.

Art Painting

I have done painting before but nothing at this level. I actually had to completely redo this projects before getting it right. I learned a cool way to get all the lines down onto the canvas by completely covering the back with lead and then tracing the lines while watching all the pieces form onto the canvas. I also had to learn a new way use brushstrokes so that I could add texture. This project was really fun to do and it allowed me to understand how to paint so much better than I thought I could.

Ancient Aztec Jar

I don't really know how I got the 4 "legs" of my jar. I basically made it into a block, pushed the sides in, and twisted it. Then I had to put on so many coats. But making the Aztec jar was really fun. I really enjoy playing with clay and Mr. Langmaack basically said do what ever you want with it. So I made it an ivory, gold inlaid/covered jar. I cannot describe how much fun I had making a "what-is-it" jar and being given the freedom to restart, build, restart again, and so on.

Clay Bowl

This clay jar was actually difficult to figure out how to do. Mr. Langmacck gave us a plastic bowl with paper on it and told us to draw what we wanted. Being the person that I am, I went for something hard and drew something kind of like a web. As I finished up Mr. Langmaack said to the class, "you want more clay than air" and at that point I was like, "uhhh?" So I made some modification by adding more clay which satisfied his suggestion. After a couple of days of air drying I took it off of the plastic bowl hoping it wouldn't fall apart. I flipped it over and it looked beautiful. I filled in the open cracks and had it fired. I then added the glaze and fired again. Now it is all shiny and looks so cool in my opinion.

The Whistle of the KRAKEN

My favorite type of art is using clay. One can do so many things with it and for me it is a stress-relief. So I made the Kraken for my whistle. how we made it was actually pretty cool. I took two balls of clay and made them the same size, I also made an eraser sized rectangular cube. I took the two clay balls and made them into a bowl shape leaving a half-inch width, then I put the bowls together and made it into a single howl sphere. Then with the eraser piece of clay, I just set that on top and messed the base into the sphere. I then rolled the ball, with the eraser pointing up, a little ways so that it was a flat. Then I stuck a sharpened Popsicle stick into the center of the eraser and made a hole in the base. I then toyed with it until it whistled. After that I added clay, made tentacles, and glazed it. I would love to do this again and make something new.

UnderWatercolor

This is my UnderWatercolor painting that I have done. Honestly, it wasn't my favorite because I kept messing up on the values of the water color. Water coloring was also very difficult because I picked an octopus which naturally is a very complex animal. I also had to completely redo it because I shaded too dark too quickly. And the second time, I messed up the shadowing so I added the rock, which I think was a nice recovery from what it was. Honestly, I would want to do it again just so that I can make it look better than my last attempt.

Bird Print

This was a cool art project. It had its moments, for example when I was carving the plate, I dug to deep into the eye of the bird and cut off a portion of the white spot. So when I went to print it, I was not looking quiet right. So I dug around the edges of the birds eye and was able to fix it. Then I started printing my pieces and thinking of ideas for my interesting print. (I thought of a 3D print, trust me it looks sick.)

Spot the Difference

Mr. Langmaack asked us to make a Spot the Differences book for little kids to enjoy while they wait at the dentist. So he gave us his videos and we followed them and I think I did a pretty good job with Grant at making this.  It was kind of difficult to change some of these like the recoloring and the duplication. But, Grant gave me some help and we were able to make a good Spot the Differences book. I hope that the kids enjoy it and take their mind off of the stress of the dentist.

The Pencil Box

This was actually, the easiest project that I have done all school year for any class. We just took some Styrofoam and caught it into the correct portion and glued them together. then we took to sheets of paper and used one for the body and one for the lid. and we took that bronze and carved our names on one side and then flipped it over to give it "crisp edges." I don't know exactly where or what I'm going to do with it but it will definitely be put to use. This has been a super fun last project for Intro to Art and I enjoyed every one of them even the UnderWater-Water Color.
