This project wasn't my favorite. On my own, I do start projects very similar to what we did for our 3D Story but I feel as if I didn't put much effort into my piece. I know I could've done a bit better and worked more efficiently on this project if I took more time on it and chose a better setting.
Starting this project, I was super unsure about how I would be able to complete this efficiently. I'm not a fan of realism but with the help of Langmaack I was able to do things I never thought I'd be able to. I am very proud of the highlights and shading I did on this piece and I don't think I'd be able to do this without the help of Langmaack and a little bit of courage.
This picture makes my whistle look dark. Overall, this project was incredibly fun and I enjoyed making my clay whistle. It took me a few class periods to actually get it to make any sound but after that, the rest of it seemed easier than I thought it would be. I was excited to design my whistle and making it into a beetle made me super happy.
This project was very lenghty and time-consuming. It didn't take me too long to make up a design, the part that took up the most time was the actual building process. I feel like my design was cool and the glaze color I picked out was nice. The only flaws in my bowl are the glaze distribution and uneven design. It also cracked in the kiln a little bit, and I tried to fill it with glaze but I was unsuccessful.
Honestly, I am not the happiest with my clay jar. I started this project with lots of ideas and the want to branch out with my creation. After being told we had to make a "nothing" jar, my mind went blank. I contemplated what defined nothing. With this project, I used the same colors of the Rosy Maple Moth. Not the greatest idea, I know. This was also my first time using glaze if you couldn't tell. If I could change anything about this project, I would differenciate the color scheme and lid, because I do enjoy the design.
Orginally for this assignment, I used a photo of a shrimp. I thought it was cute and something I could paint, but it ended up being incredibly difficult for me to watercolor. When I paint or do art, I like to have a full understanding of the subject of my art. I couldn't find good anatomical pictures of a shrimp and my reference picture was blurry so the legs put me through a lot of confusion. I ended up switching my photo to a seal and from there with what I learned, I was able to finish my assignment sucessfuly. I am not super happy with the background, but I still really like how it turned out.
Overall, I really enjoyed this project. The majority of my struggles consisted of the stamping itself rather than the stamp making. The stamp making was incredibly fun and reasonably challenging. The stamping with ink was really difficult for me and I ended up smearing or smudging my prints almost every time. I needed some assistance from my friends and Langmaack at times but overall this was a nice project.
I finished this project later than I thought I would've. I'm not very satisfied with the way this project was executed in my own time. I didn't use my time wisely and ended up submitting this project during finals week. Oil pastels confused me and it felt as if I was coloring with crayons. I was angry and frustrated with the way oil pastels function and only now I am finding a little acceptance in my drawing.
