I chose Intro to Art because I thought that it would be fun. I used AI to get some of the images, but used google for most of them. During this lesson I learned to be creative with the materials that I've been given. My bad experience with the country of Portugal is what inspired this piece. This piece isn't meaningful for me; it's not that good. The goal of this project was to showcase my annoying adventure in Portugal. I'd say that I achieved that. I wish that I could have made it better, but many others thought that it was pretty funny (in a good way). I like the way the nose of the plane looks. I don't however like the line that goes on forever. It doesn't look very good. I will try to make my other pieces look better than this.
This was a challenging project. The media I used to make this project were pencils of different thicknesses, erasers, and a paper roll for blending. I learned many techniques to be able to make this drawing possible. I learned how to shade, how to duplicate lines, how to increase the size of the thing I'm copying, and how to trust my eyes and not rely on what my brain thinks is correct. Getting a good grade in art inspired me to make this piece. This piece is meaningful to me because it was fun to make and also helped me to develop my skills no elementary art project ever did. The goal of this project was to make a realistic-looking copy of my hand, and believe that I achieved that. I'm a perfectionist, so I can see ways I can improve, but for a first project, I think it looks pretty good, and I've received nothing but compliments from others. The thing I like best are the lines. The thing I'd wish to improve on is the shading. This project definitely built skills that will help me in making all of my projects going forward.
For this project I used paintbrushes of various sized and acrylic paint. I learned about using colors to make things rounder with color and the art of painting something that looks like the thing, not painting the thing. This piece is meaningful to me because it was just a really fun project where I got to mix paints and relax. The goal of this project was to create a not realistic painting, but a painting that captured the feeling of the photo it was based off of, and I do believe that I achieved that goal. It's better than I thought it would be, and I've gotten nothing but praise from my peers, no matter how hard I looked for criticism. I love the way that the grass looks, especially with the closest hill. I dislike some of the trees, especially the ones that I had to paint in the cover and an accidental brushstroke. I will take the relaxation and things I learned about mixing colors onto my next pieces.
With this project I used clay. I learned how to better shape clay to my liking. I think that this piece looks pretty cool. The goal of this project was to create a jar that resembled nothing. A "nothing jar". I definitely achieved that goal. I could have done better with the blending and shading on the red body, but other people seemed to like it okay. The thing I like the best is the shading between the two blues. It looks very natural. I like the shading between the two reds the least. It's hard to tell that I even used more than one red. I will definitely try to do better when it comes to blending the glaze on my next clay projects.
This was another project that we did with clay. I learned how to make a whistle out of clay and used a lot of score and slip. I made this whistle in the likeness of a sandworm popping up out of the sand from the sci-fi book series, Dune. This piece is meaningful to me as it will look great on my shelf next to the book series. The goal of this project was to make a whistle in the likeness of something, and I definitely achieved that, as I believe that my creation captures the look of the iconic Shai-hulud. I love this whistle, and others have responded positively. The thing I like the best is the three-pronged mouth, which turned out so well. I could have done better with the glazing. I probably won't do anymore Dune themed projects, but I will be inspired to add a touch of my more unconventional interests on a couple of projects going forward.
This was our second project using clay, this time clay coils to form the bowl. I learned how to use clay coils to make a design. With this project's swirling coils and deep blue color inspired by the ocean, I instantly connected with it personally. The goal of this project was to create a bowl out of clay coils, and that is a goal that I can confidently say that achieved. It looks better than I thought it would, and others responded positively. The thing I like the best is the color, it really brings out what I was going for. I could've done better making the pentagons more even with each other. This project was complex and took me longer than most of my class mates, so I think that I'll work on my time management for future projects.
With this project the class learned to paint with watercolor. I learned to shade by adding more layers and to blend watercolor. I chose a squid because I didn't think that anyone else in the class would do the same thing, and I was right. The goal of this project was to paint a sea creature with watercolor, and this goal was achieved. It turned out much better than I thought it would, and everyone told me how much they loved it. I messed up a little when tracing the tentacles, and had to cover it up when adding texture. The thing I liked best was the colors that I chose. The color-scheme fit perfectly with the photo, and it made it easier to make it look great. I will be more optimistic with trying different art mediums.
With this project, I created a picture of a mantis with oil pastels. I learned how to blend oil pastels to create dynamic images, and how to create sharp images with such bulky utensils. I chose to do a mantis because they look cool, and I didn't think that anyone else in the class was doing one. This piece is meaningful to me because of how long it took to do. I had chosen a difficult picture, and missed a few days of working, it took a while to make up the Focuses. The goal of this project was to make a sharp image of an insect using oil pastels. I would say that I did that. I like it, and the other people who've seen it like it as well. I like the plant's stem; it turned out surprisingly well. The mantis' body is a little rough in a few places because I didn't really have the time to be super nit-picky. I will be more apt to get my last project done on time.
We carved prints out of rubber, and printed ink onto paper. I learned how to make several copies of an image in different mediums to get the end result. I chose a pelican because I didn't think that anyone else would do one. It took me a little bit longer than most people to get started, but in the end, I got it done on time. The goal of this project was to make a print of a bird, and that was achieved. Others have responded well when presented with the print. What I like best is the uniqueness. I don't know anyone else who did the same bird. I wish I picked an image that didn't have a dark background, as it was difficult to get it to print. I will be better with how I spend my time in the beginning with future projects.
