With this project, I used clay with raku glaze to make a match bowl. This was essentially a pinch-pot. I wanted it to be slightly asymmetrical. This project gives me something to drink coffee in. The goal of this project was to make a match bowl, and I think that I achieved that goal as my creation is visibly a small bowl. I thought that the glaze turned out weird and different, and others echoed those thoughts. What I like most is the shape; I'm not a fan of how the glaze turned out. I will be more precise about glaze in the future.
I used clay and a stencil. I learned how to carve a pattern into my plate with an exact-o knife. I wanted my plate to look like the sun. I like this one because I had a fun time working on this project with my friends. The goal of this project was to carve a pattern onto a clay plate, and I did that. I like this, and others liked it too. I like the color the most, but I think that the stenciling could be sharper. Going forward, I will try to be more precise in my work.
With this project, I used clay to create a box, and cut-up popsicle sticks to impress patterns into it. I learned how to create impressive designs with simple efforts (i.e. the popsicle sticks). I wanted my box to be of a regal aesthetic. I like it because it is something useful that I made that I made. I think that it looks great. People have commented on how much they love my patterns. I like how the "scale" pattern turned out. I think that my sides could have been more even. I think I will put more of an effort for symmetry in future projects.
I made my personal logo from foam and paper mostly. The techniques I used were mostly ones I already knew, like paper-mâché and landscape painting. I was inspired by myself. This project is my way of trying to put most of myself into a design. I think that I was able to do that. My ability to do the landscape painting was a little rusty at first, but I got better with the later stuff. My friends say that it looks good. I like the tree that I painted. The mountains that I did near the beginning really show that I was a bit rusty when it came to painting. I think that the painting practice that it provided me will help when it comes to painted projects in the future.
With this project, I used clay to create a realistic animal sculpture. I really learned how to study a photo to try to make something look right; to make big changes. I was inspired to create a sculpture of my favorite animal, a lemur, which is why this is so meaningful to me. The goal of this project was to make an animal sculpture that was realistic, and I think that I achieved that. I like it, and my friends and classmates have complimented it. I like how the log that it sits on turned out; I think that it looks very realistic. I'm not entirely sure about the tail. It was hard to deal with and I didn't quite know what to do with it. I think that I will take a new view of clay with me into my next projects: it is more work-able than I previously thought.
I used driftwood, reeds, and paper to make a lamp. I learned how to work with reeds and make them bend to my will. I was inspired by the look of a sailboat in ways. This is meaningful to me because my grandparents have a sailboat that they like to sail around Huntington Lake with us. The goal of this project was to experiment, and I did vary quite a bit from my original vision. I think that it's cute, and my friends have said that they like it. I like the frame of the lame the best. I accidentally hit one of the panels when it was wet, and it stretched, which is probably my least favorite thing about it. This will influence my future work as I will keep in mind the experimentation.
