Self-Portrait

I drew my own face for my self-portrait project! I used assorted pencils and erasers (and a reference photo) to make this piece. I definitely struggled a lot with the proportion of my facial features - especially my nose and eyes. I also found it hard to translate the individual squares from my template to a full portrait that actually looked like a person. I wish I could have darkened my hair - it's way too shiny and looks like I poured oil all over it :') Overall, though, I'm pretty happy with the result and I think it does look like me!

Food Painting

I decided to paint red bean sesame balls for this project, and I used acrylic paints and brushes to achieve this piece. This was the absolute worst subject I could have picked: it took forever, the balls all came out differently, and I really don't like the final product. I wish I'd just chosen a different photo, to begin with, and saved myself unnecessary stress over all the ridiculous little seeds I still needed to paint. I rushed so much ;-;

My takeaway? I'd 100% not recommend this subject to anyone who wants to paint food.

Scratch Art

I chose a fluffy penguin for my scratch art project this year, and I had a lot of fun with it! I used an Exacto-Knife to achieve the final result. I struggled a bit with the different lines, but I got the hang of it eventually and it turned out quite well (if I do say so myself). I'd definitely do this again.

Architecture Watercolor

I decided on a spooky Victorian mansion for this project, and I had the best time with it :) The thing that really brought this piece together was the white gel pen: it cleaned up all my excess marks and created a smooth, polished finish. I was a bit lazy with some of the proportions, but you can't really tell, haha

I'm really proud of what I created, and I'll definitely continue to watercolor in the future!

Transportation Colored Pencil

I wasn't happy with the car images I was perusing, so I pulled inspiration from a video game and decided to draw a Mario Kart. I really like how it turned out, especially because it's just colored pencil. I didn't struggle with it quite as much as I thought I would; I also finished early. It's one of my favorite pieces!
