As an art student at Central Valley Christian we will be creating a portrait picture of one of the kids living in Honduras. We are going to be taking 3 different art styles. pencil, color pencil, and oil pastels. From these three we will be practiced one each week to determine what style is best for us to make the best end product for these kids. and to build unique connection between international kindness. And the goal is that once these kids get their portraits they are filled with joy and excitement. To show the love of God through these drawings from us kids who sending these pictures their way in hope they can have a smile on their face.
For me I am someone who has always enjoyed colored pencil. The flexibility and openness to be able to mend my drawing in who Sarya is and reflect on her features. The oil reson i did not go with colored pencil was due to the oppritunity of oil pastels. I wanted to practice and develop my skills in oil pastel to get good at. So, pencils were my second choice.
Colored pencil is hard. Im sure some people can really got at this, but it was not for me. When it comes to colored pencil there is no blending nor availability to make it smoother than what it would be.
Oil pastels sure took me for a learning curve, but with the 4 weeks of practice i felt confident in my work and skill to move forward in my ability to create Sayra's portrait. The smoothness and ability to mend and blend the colors to create the preferred features.
What a new experience! Oil pastels took me for a learning curve. The start of the project, starting with the practice. It took me a few days to understand the ways of oil pastels. As to why I decided to move forward with oil pastels. The start of the project I felt as if i was able to make great progress in the first day, all though the farther along i got, the more discombobulated and all my marks on the paper were all over the place. and solotches of work all over the face. But once i was able to focus on one part of the face at a time i found my project moving at a faster pace. As for the last part of the project i will say i left the hardest for last, as in the eyes and lips, which brought frustration, but I felt okay with it by the end.
My hope is that Sarya will receive her photo with a sense of joy and excitement in the fact that someone spent the time and effort to create something that is hers and for her, because of that that we want spread love and joy in Gods word. If I had a word of encouragement to Sarya I'd let her know she is beautiful, that there is so much to live for in life as long as you continue to stay happy and continue to look towards the lord in times of trouble.
